Summer Update 7/23/2019
Dear Thomas School Community,
I hope you are having a wonderful summer! Our administrative team has been working hard to prepare for and welcome you to the 2019-2020 school year! Please take a moment to read through this letter in its entirety as it contains pertinent information.
On July 31, 2019, our two new Associate Principals Mr. Greg Keadle and Mr. Nick Filipowski will begin their new roles at TMS. Greg is a veteran math teacher and 8th-grade team leader here at Thomas and is excited to join the TMS administrative team! The entire community will benefit from Greg's leadership and passion for the TMS Community! Mr. Nick Filipowski is also a veteran employee in District 25. Nick has been working at our district office in the role of Fine Arts, Physical Education, & Social-Emotional Learning Coordinator. He is bringing a wealth of leadership experience to this position and we're excited to welcome Nick the TMS administrative team.
Our team is looking forward to carrying on the TMS traditions that make our school community so special. We have also added a couple of new events we hope you will enjoy as well!
We are thrilled to begin this journey with all of you. Please feel free to reach out to the TMS office with any questions or concerns.
Best wishes,
Lori Naumowicz

D25 Summer Reading - Reach for the Stars
Click on this link for additional information regarding SUMMER READING!
District 25 Middle Schools are thrilled to present students with Summer Reading 2019: Reach for the Stars. We've carefully selected titles to give students an opportunity to read about different perspectives and life experiences. Each of the characters has a story to tell and in doing so they show a tremendous amount of strength, passion, perseverance, and hope.
The expectation is that every TMS student READ AT LEAST ONE BOOK....our hope is that students READ SEVERAL.
How many books do you think you can read when reading is a choice, not a chore?

Thomas Cross Country
Dear Timberwolf Parents:
We are happy to invite your child to participate in Thomas Cross Country starting this August. We are a no-cut sport and everyone participates in most meets! As the only sport 6th graders are allowed to participate in, cross country is a great opportunity to enjoy a healthy, outdoor activity while meeting new people. Please read this letter carefully as it contains everything you need to know for your child to join the cross country team this fall.
PRACTICES: In order to get a head start on conditioning to be more ready for our first meet on Wednesday, Aug. 28th, all athletes are invited (but NOT required) to attend practices before school starts. The first practice will begin at Thomas on Wednesday, August 7 from 7:30-9:00 am. Starting at 7:00 am, we will be collecting forms outside the TMS office. ALL FORMS MUST BE TURNED IN AND A CURRENT PHYSICAL MUST BE ON FILE IN ORDER TO PRACTICE. If it isn’t possible to join us on 8/7, come when it is possible – but please have your forms and current physical turned in. The summer practice days along with locations are listed below.
If athletes cannot attend these practices before school begins, that’s OK! We encourage all athletes to run most days of the week for 20+ minutes on their own (or run for 10 minutes, walk two minutes, then run 10 minutes more.) It takes time to build up cardiovascular endurance and they’ll do better and feel better if they have a head start.
PHYSICALS: Athletes must have a current physical BEFORE they can participate in ANY of our practices, including pre-season practices. “Current” for the cross country season means the athlete must have had a physical dated after 9/19/18. The school nurse, Mrs. Grossman, will be on hand to accept physicals from 7-7:30 AM on the first day of practice, Wed., 8/7. After this date, physicals can be turned in at the TMS office during summer hours (M-Th, 7 AM-3 PM, & Fri., 7-11 AM.)
FORMS: Three forms should be completed and turned in before their first practice: Safety Contract, Permission to Participate, and Concussion Awareness. All three forms are attached to this email and are also on the TMS Website
WATER: Summer and Fall are a warm and humid time and it is critical to hydrate before, during, and after running. Runners should bring plenty of water with them to every practice and meet. A 16-oz. water bottle isn’t enough on those really hot and humid days.
ATHLETE REGISTRATION: Please register your athlete online here (or visit the TMS Website)
UNIFORMS Athletes buy tops from us & they can also be used for track & field season and CC next year. Cost is $12. Pick up from Coach Slo and pay with cash or check (made out to Thomas MS.) Sizes are Youth M-L/Adult S-M-L. Athletes will need their own plain black shorts for uniform bottoms.
TMS CC WEBSITE Please check out it out here. Meet lineups and results will be posted on the website, along with other important information such as forms, schedule, course maps, cross country records, & how to sign up for our REMIND APP and tips for athletes and parents. If you have a question, chances are it could be answered on the CC site. If not, you can still email Coach Moore (tricia.moore@d214.org) or Coach Slowinski (tslowinski@sd25.org).
REMIND APP: We’ve started a NEW cross country Remind group this year, so everyone will need to sign up (even if you were already signed up last year). This is the MAIN way we communicate with parents, so please sign up ASAP. To join, enter the number 81010 and text this message: @kcgcea
To get messages by email, send an email to kcgcea@gmail.remind.com
PARENT MEETING Please join us for a parent meeting on Tues., 8/20 at 5:30 PM in the TMS cafeteria. Come meet the coaches and ask questions. If you cannot be there, be sure to read up on the CC website for information, and join the Remind group, so you get all updates.
Thank you! We look forward to another successful cross country season!

Tricia Moore tricia.moore@d214.org Todd Slowinski tslowinski@sd25.org
Pride of the Wolf Pack Golf Outing - THANK YOU!!!
Our 3rd annual Pride of the Wolf Pack Golf Outing was a great success! Many thanks all of our participants as well as our Pride of the Wolf Pack leaders, Mr. Keadle, Mr. Kuch, and Mr. Pearl! We would also like to extend our gratitude to all those that generously donated raffle and silent auction items and to those that graciously volunteered to prepare for or work the event.
Over the past two years, the Pride of the Wolf Pack has used the proceeds from the outing in a number of ways, including:
Purchased banners that hang in our new gym to honor our Pride of the Wolf Pack members.
Purchased new uniforms for our girls and boys basketball teams.
We've paid for two of our track athletes to travel and stay downstate because they were unable to afford accommodations.
We have awarded two $500 scholarships to college-bound high school seniors that graduated from Thomas.
We take great pride in exploring new ways to positively impact the TMS school community and support the programs that Thomas has to offer our students.
WE APPRECIATE YOUR SUPPORT!
