M6 Classical Conditioning
#1. Complete the Classical Conditioning practice quiz.
#2. Complete the Classical Conditioning assignment. In this assignment you will analyze four of the scenarios given using the information you learned in the lesson.
Please let me know if you have any questions! Have a great day!
Today for Lesson One you will pick 2 scenarios and identify the aspects that apply to classical conditioning. Make sure you have an understanding of the terms below before completing the assignment.
Classical Conditioning - Learning that occurs when a neutral stimulus (NS) becomes associated with an Unconditioned Stimulus (UCS) to elicit a Conditioned Response (CR)
· Unconditioned Stimulus (UCS):
· The stimulus that automatically triggers a response
· Unconditioned Response (UCR):
· The unlearned NATURALLY occurring response to the unconditioned stimulus
· Conditioned Stimulus (CS) formerly neutral stimulus:
· An originally irrelevant stimulus that, after association with the unconditioned stimulus, triggers the conditioned response
· Conditioned Response (CR):
· The learned response to a previously neutral stimulus
Little Albert - Experiment in Classical Conditioning
Little Albert
John Watson and Rosalie Raynor demonstrated how the emotion of fear could be classically conditioned.
· They performed several tests on an 11-month old named Albert
· Albert was presented with a white laboratory rat to gage his response.
· He showed no fear
· Watson then paired the presentation of the white rat to a loud noise (which scared Albert)
· After several pairings of the rat and a loud noise, Albert began to cry at the sight of a white rat.
· Albert’s response is referred to as a Conditioned Emotional Response - A classically conditioned emotional response to a previously neutral stimulus
· While highly unethical, their experiment and research demonstrated that many of our fears, likes, dislikes, and prejudices are conditioned emotional responses.
