Fabulous in First!
November 2, 2018
General Information
Goodbye October...Hello November! Thank you for all that you did to help us with the fall harvest parties and making our pumpkin exploration day a success. We appreciate your support!
As we approach colder weather, we encourage you to put your child's room number and initials on the tag(s) of their outdoor gear. This will help us return any gear that ends up in the lost and found.
The Book Fair will be opening soon. Please check out the link below to know more!
Reading Workshop
First grade readers are starting to explore ways to solve tricky words. This is an incredibly important concept in first grade and one that we will continue to work on throughout the year! This will last the month of November and students will soon set goal around this.
One way you can support your child is by helping them to think about the strategies they do know. Ask your child, "How can you solve that word? What can you try?". This encourages independence and helps them to develop stronger reading muscles!
Writing Workshop
One way you can support your child at home is by asking them to write and say their words slowly. This helps them to hear the sounds at the beginning, the middle, and the end of their words. You can also try/purchase the iTRACE app.
Math Workshop
Our first graders will be exploring strategies to solve addition and subtraction equations! Alongside this, students will continue to learn how to share their thinking and respond to one another. One of the most important habits of mathematicians is their ability to communicate clearly!
One way you can support your child at home is by talking to your child about what each coin is called and what it is worth!
Leader In Me
One way you can support your child at home is by sitting down and talking as a family about what your family mission statement should be. Check out the link to know more! https://www.leaderinme.org/create-family-mission-statement-3-steps/
