News from Ms. Hess
In literacy, we read folktales from different cultures including A Story, A Story and The Hobyahs. We made connections with personification (human traits for objects and animals) in books we've read and movies we've watched. We even took advantage of the last day of beautiful weather and read outside!
Writers worked with a partner to write a collaborative spook story using only Google doc comments to communicate with their partner. Next week, we will read these aloud in the dark with flashlights. Please send in a flashlight for spooky effect.
We continued our work in science exploring concentration and saturation. We had fun listening to songs including the word "shake" while we shook 50ml of water with increasing amounts of salt to determine water's saturation point.
Our naturalist, Mary Bulger, came this week to teach us about archery and geocaching. We had fun finding 4 waypoints and trying our hand at archery!
Halloween!
Your child is invited (not mandatory) to collect donations while they trick or treat this year to bring into school and send in to UNICEF. I have attached a video about the impact children can have in the lives of children less fortunate.
Our Halloween party will start at 2pm. We will provide time to get dressed prior. Kids will eat until the parade begins at 2:15 and reaches us, then we will play games and finish our food! Thanks in advance to the parents who have offered to help with the party!
Binder of Awesome home on Monday, October 30!
Thanks so much for meeting with me during PLPs. We had 100% participation! Your child will have added a few items to their binder this coming Monday so please take a look and talk about his/her new goal.
Please sign and return the binder with your child on Tuesday. Thanks so much!
Learning Goals This Week:
Math: I can divide large numbers with two digit divisors.
Writing: I can collaboratively write a spooky story.
