The Potter Packet

Happenings in Room 231!

Reader's Workshop- This week our anchor text was a realistic fiction text called The Storm. We discussed character traits of main characters in the story. The students were then able to pick out characters from their just right reading books and discuss character traits of their main characters. We also went book shopping and were able to pick some new books for Reader's Workshop.

Writer's Workshop/Language Arts- We finished our noun acorns! They turned out great! The students discussed possessive nouns also. We also discussed short i words, and the sound it makes in preparation for our spelling challenge.

Math- We took our first math test this week! It went great! We also started chapter 2, which is subtraction. We discussed making a model to show "taking away" and writing the subtraction sentence that goes with it. We also started to discuss using the bar model in subtraction and how it relates to addition.

Science/Social Studies- This week we had a walking field trip to the Lawrenceville Firehouse. The students learned all about firefighters, their jobs, and were even able to take a tour of the fire truck! It was so cool! The students also discussed the difference between wants and needs.
