Farley Elementary School's Weekly Family Update

THOUGHTS and THANK YOUS

Dear Farley Families,

Major gratitude this week goes to every single person who helped make these first few days of school such an incredible experience. Despite the heat, our students and staff were all smiles. Kids jumped out of their cars or off the bus, walkers didn't walk but skipped or ran down the pavement to our school doors, and beamed with pride as they entered the building. I loved watching students bear hug their teachers, hold hands with siblings, and high-five our Fox Mascot.

Special thanks goes to the mystery artist(s) for the delightful "welcome back staff messages" painted in chalk near the main office doors. Your works of art were a welcomed surprise on Monday! Farley faculty were in awe...especially impressed by the Farley Mascot drawing.

In addition, we want to thank Officer Chad and Service Dog Murf for transporting a new student to school. After that, Officer Chad and Murf then greeted students at Parent/Caregiver Drop-Off. Murf's presence is always so calming and supportive!

I hope you are all enjoying your free Friday! Remember, NO SCHOOL Monday!

OTHER UPDATES AND REMINDERS

SCHOOL IMPROVEMENT COUNCIL

In compliance with the Education Reform Act of 1993, every school in Hudson and in Massachusetts, is required to have a School Improvement Council. This council is made up of a school committee member, two staff members, two caregivers of children attending the school who shall be elected by the caregivers of Farley Elementary, at least one person from the community (not a parent or teacher of a child attending the school) and the school principal who shall co-chair the Council. We try out best to ensure that the members of the council be representative of the multicultural population of Hudson.

This year, we have open spots for two parent/caregivers to join the Council. In line with the Education Reform Act, the parents/caregivers selected to serve will be elected by the Farley community. We will be using a Google online ballot to elect our next caregiver/parent members.

If you are a parent or caregiver and wish to have your name included on the ballot for this election, please complete the form linked below and submit this to the main office by the end of the school day on Friday, September 9th. You can also email your information to: rscanlon@hudson.k12.ma.us. The voting will take place the following week. The first meeting will be held on September 28th @ 5:30 in the Farley Conference room. For the remainder of the year, the council will meet the first Wednesday of each month at 5:30 also in the Farley Conference room.

I thank you in advance for your consideration!

Our amazing Cafeteria Manager, Ms. Christa MacNeil, was waiting on a delivery today so she can confirm what the meal options will be. This year's menus will be more diverse and eclectic. Help us encourage adventurous eaters! Thank you Meghan Gasek for being our Farley Homepage Webmaster and for posting all necessary information on the website.

A Message from the Superintendent's Office

Courage+Gratitude+Forgiveness+Compassion in Action=Choose Love

Save the Date:

September 21, 2022- Come learn about the social emotional learning curriculum Hudson Public Schools is implementing this school year. The program is called Choose Love and will be taught in preschool through grade 12. Attend the in-person Choose Love Kickoff-Keynote for Parents by Scarlett Lewis, founder of the Choose Love Movement. Scarlett Lewis will present at the Hudson High School auditorium from 7:00-8:30 in the evening. Parents will learn the researched benefits of the four character values of the Choose Love Formula and understand how vital they are to implement in our daily lives. The four units of Choose Love are Courage + Gratitude + Forgiveness + Compassion in Action =Chose Love. Scarlet Lewis founded Choose Love after the death of her son, Jesse Lewis, in the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting. Scarlet Lewis turned the pain of her loss into developing a social emotional program that provides strategies and tools to students. Choose Love helps children manage their emotions, feel connected, and have healthy, meaningful relationships.

  • Repair or replacement of the chain link fence around the Farley playground-COMPLETED!
  • Removal of the unused metal bike rack in the playscape area
  • Landscape the corner areas of the playscape so that it is a usable space--maybe for some picnic tables

FARLEY AWARDED $3,000 from McGovern Subaru!

For new families to Farley, special thanks goes to McGovern Subaru in Acton for selecting Farley as the recipient of their $3,000 educational donation!
