Kelly's 16U Softball
Work hard, improve, have fun, make lifelong friends, & PLOS
It's almost time!
Using a program like this (smore.com) allows me to include more pictures, video, and "extras" than a regular email. The links I've included are live and you can enlarge the pictures by simply clicking on them.
I'll try to send out an update like this every week or so. If you're not getting it or would like me to send it to another email or two, just send me the email address and I'll add it to the distribution list. Please share this information with your daughters--much of this information is for and about them--and many of them don't have or never check their e-mail anyway!
Things are going pretty well for our team. In a perfect world, we'd be able to practice 3-4 times a week as we prepare for our game season. But, as coaches and parents, we also want our girls to have to opportunity to compete in activities outside of softball, whether that's dance, track & field, tennis, music, church youth activities, and more.
That said, I think i can speak for Kent and Jake when I say that we've been VERY impressed with the work ethic that our girls have put forth so far this spring. Not only have we taught fundamentals (fielding, throwing, hitting, baserunning) but we've also had the opportunities to teach and practice some of the finer points of the game (bunt coverage, turning the double play, catchers blocking the ball and keeping it in front of them, etc).
We are looking forward to another great season of Kelly's softball.
Thank you for your work with our recent fundraiser--the pop, trash bags and butter braids. We did very well. These fundraisers are very important if we want to keep our costs down (did you know that the registration fee for Golden Girls this year is $495? We are a STEAL at $125!)
Even with low fees, in the past two years, we've upgraded our uniforms, purchased more equipment, found and made improvements to an indoor practice facility, gone to more tournaments, added another 10s team, added a 16s team (US!), and are now planning to host our own tournament--May 21-22. (We will need ALL PARENTS AND FAMILIES to help during our tournament because we want it to be the best tournament in town and we want everyone to come back next year! There will be a sign-up sheet with various jobs listed that will be emailed to you soon!)
Thanks for sharing your daughters will us again this year. We are enjoying them greatly and can't wait to see them compete on the field!
Upcoming Dates

Pictures from the Past
You may notice no pictures from the first year (when our girls were 7 and 8 years old playing 10 & Under). After Arlington beat us 22-0, I remember thinking, "Don't take any pictures; I don't want any evidence of this season."
We may not have won that many games that season, but we did lay the foundation of what has become a very solid team. Not only are we a team, we're also a family. I have really enjoyed getting to know the girls and the families over the last 8 years. I hope you have, too.

Do you like to take pictures?
If you like to take pictures, I'd love to see them and post them on newsletters like this and on our Kelly's Facebook page. Maybe we could set up a Shutterfly page and have everyone share their pictures there? Contact me if you have ideas!

Video of the Week
What the freshman did was heroic. But how the senior handled it was even more impressive.
I love the definition of team, teammate, and selflessness, too!
Have a great rest of your week!
