According to the national park service, the actual island itself has been there for over 10,000 years and It is also located off the coast of California and it was named after the deep trough that separates it from the mainland.
Myth about the Arch Rock
Billions of years ago back when the Arch Rock was just a large rock wall, a man named Alfred Heinsenberg believed that if he mined all the way through the wall he would find a portal and it would take him all the way to the forests of Asia. Everyday after that he mined a bit of the wall. When he finally reached the other side he did find a portal. People say that still today you can hear him in the forests of Asia
