How to Find the Mean Absoulte Deviation
Data Set: 6, 5, 7, 4, 3
Step 1: Find the mean of the list of numbers.
6+5+7+4+3= 25/5= 5
Step 2: Find out the distance/difference of one numbers in the data set and the mean. Do this for all numbers in the data set.
1, 0, 2, 1, 2
Step 3: Find the mean of those numbers.
1+0+2+1+2= 6/5= 1.2
Mean Absolute Deviation: 1.2
Parts of a Box and Whisker Plot
As you can see, the line inside the plot is the median. The line on the left that surrounds the box shows the value of the lower quartile. The line on the right that surrounds the box shows the value of the upper quartile. The line that goes through the box shows the range,
How to Make the Plot With a Number Line
First, you make a vertical line over the median. Second, you make a line over the lower quartile and the upper quartile. Third, you connect those three lines together to make the box. Fourth, you make a small line over the lowest and highest values. Fifth, you connect the small lines to the box using a line.
What Do the Parts of the Plot Represent
The line in the middle of the plot shows the median. The right end of the box shows the upper quartile and the left end of the box shows the lower quartile. The ends of the line that goes across the number line are the lower extreme and the upper extreme which are the lowest and highest values of a set of data.
Innerqaurtile Range
Data Set: 5, 9, 2, 4, 8
Step 1: Find the median.
2, 4, 5, 8, 9 = 5
Step 2: Not including the median, find the median of the numbers on the left of the median and the right of the median.
2,4= 3 8,9= 8.5
