*Senior News*

Seniors: Have you met with your Counselor yet? It is not too late! Your Counselor can help you with your post-secondary planning: college applications, scholarship searches, and financial aid questions (FASFA)!

  • College will start sending Financial Aid Packages to accepted students early to mid April.

  • Visit the colleges you are considering. More often than not, a campus visit helps students make their final decision as to which college they attend.

  • Continue working on college applications. Don't wait for the "perfect" GPA or ACT Score. Most colleges will take ACT Scores and GPA updates after you have submitted your application.
  • February 1: FAFSA Priority Deadline for Missouri- https://fafsa.ed.gov/. Students should complete the FAFSA even if you don't think you will qualify for grant money. You must also complete it to qualify for Federal Work Study, low interest/ delayed interest loans, and parent loans.
  • SCHOLARSHIPS: Don't forget to check Naviance Student often for all scholarship opportunities. Click on the Scholarships and Money section and then click on Scholarship List.
  • Letters of Recommendation: Don't forget to give your counselor and teachers at least 3 weeks notice when requesting letters of recommendation. Also, submit an academic resume or a completed information sheet at the time of the request. Counselor Recommendation Letter

Titan A+ Program

The A+ Program at Lee’s Summit West strives to ensure that students are prepared for and successful in life beyond high school. The A+ Program works to provide students with continuous and progressive career information throughout the students’ years at Lee’s Summit West. It also focuses on ensuring that students have course offerings that prepare them for their paths after high school. And finally, the A+ Program helps to make courses rigorous and relevant to the world outside the classroom.

Graduates of designated A+ schools who successfully complete the requirements of the A+ Program may be eligible to receive reimbursement for the cost of tuition and general fees while attending a Missouri public community college or vocational/technical school on a full-time basis. The A+ Program may provide these educational incentives provided state funds are appropriated by the legislature. The PLUS stands for financial incentives designed to aid students who wish to continue their education beyond high school and prepare for success!

Please contact A+ Coordinator Veronica Scott at: veronica.scott@lsr7.net or 816-986-4056. You can also contact Janice McCunniff, A+ Secretary at janice.mccunniff@lsr7.net or 816-986-4057.

Counseling Center Spotlight!

Meet the Staff of the Counseling Center. Each month we will spotlight a member of our staff to get to know more about them! This month...please meet our Counseling Center Secretary - Carrie Rodebush.

Hello, my name is Carrie Rodebush. This is my 2nd year at Lee's Summit West High School as the Counseling Secretary. I'm very proud to be a Titan and absolutely love my job! I feel so fortunate to have the chance to work with the great staff at West and enjoy my daily interaction with students, parents, teachers and all staff. My job is many things, but mostly a customer service type of position: enrolling new students, managing the counselors calendars, assist the Registrar with her needs and all around support for the office. I started at West as Building Clerk three years ago.

I grew up in California and moved to Lee's Summit in 2004. I earned my Bachelor's in Business Management degree through the University of Arizona accelerated program. After starting a family, I always worked in some capacity that still allowed me to be home with my kids: cafeteria prep assistant, preschool teacher, small business owner and before starting a family as an Executive Assistant for 20+ years.

I am married and have two sons (10th grader and 7th grader) and a dog. The other awesome thing about my job is it allows me to be able to work the same hours as my kids and still be home for all their activities.
