Ethics in a Digital Age
This session may count toward the Recertification topics of: Morality, Catholic Social Teaching or Elective
Our social life is grounded in the very foundation of the human person and every societal expression needs to be directed toward human dignity since we are made in the image of God. However, we live in a world mediated by digital networks. How does the emergence of these trans-social digital networks affect what it means to be human? How does it affect our understanding of community within the wider societal culture? By evaluating the ethics of the emerging digital media in relation to the human person we will address the issues of isolation, cyberbullying and truthfulness. Using a pastoral, incarnational theological approach and a media mindfulness pedagogy, we will also discuss the Church’s challenge to be a transformative ethical presence within the emerging mediascape.
