Mavericks Team Update
March 17, 2016
Today is St. Patricks Day!
Math-Today students learned (through a silent lesson!) how to solve systems of equations by substitution. Tomorrow we will take a quiz over systems of equations!
Science Today, students are continuing with the lab on how genetics determines phenotypic differences in hand width and length. We will be looking at all Maverick student data, analyzing results from 100 different students!
Social Studies-Studying for the Unit 5 exam. Filling out study guide fo rthe Test.
English Language Arts - Today students are typing their final drafts of their argumentative essays and completing a pre-reading activity for our novel unit. Students are also making corrections to their test we took on Monday/Tuesday
Students may send me their argumentative essay drafts by sharing it with me at the address email@example.com or emailing me a regular word document. If students share/email me their essays by Thursday evening, I will be able to make comments/suggestions for improvement so that Friday they can type their final draft. Final drafts are due this Friday by 3 pm.
A Few New Reminders
We are seeing an overwhelming amount of cell phones out. It is school policy that students keep their cellphones, earbuds/headphones, and bluetooth devices out of site throughout the whole school day. Any of these items, if seen, will be
Upcoming Field Trip
Students were handed out a permission slip for a field trip to the College Basketball Experience. This trip will be for Mavericks students only. A copy of the permission slip and information is below; it is crutial that all permission slips are TURNED IN BY FRIDAY, APRIL 15TH so that reservations can be made.
Extended Day Program (EDP)
EDP forms are currently available in the office and will be passed out to students soon. The link below includes the form just in case your child forgets to take it home.
Please make sure to prioritize the clubs by interest; clubs fill up fast so the sooner forms are turned in the sooner a student can get his or her first pick. Homework Help has no size limit.

Snow Closure and Delay Communication Reminder
North Kansas City Schools provides several ways for you to get the latest information on district school closings, including early release or a two-hour delayed start on days when weather is hazardous:
In case inclement weather causes the district to delay school start times or cancel classes for the day, these are the ways that information is communicated to the public:
1. District Website: www.nkcschools.org provides the first notification of school closings and other cancellations within minutes of a decision.
2. SchoolMessenger: Phone, email and optional text messages are sent to school families when classes are canceled, delayed or students are released early.
4. Radio & TV: Local stations share announcements on-air and on their websites.

I-Ready The I-Ready program provides students with lessons and assessments to strengthen their knowledge Math and ELA concepts. The Math and ELA teachers use this program in class frequently, and will use the students' scores on the assessments that follow the lessons in their grade books. We strongly encourage students working on lessons at home if possible. The student username is the student's ID #@nkcschools.org (firstname.lastname@example.org, for example) and the password is the student's birthdate (MMDDYYYY).
