From the Principal
Hopefully this message finds you well and in good spirits. The past week was one full of learning, celebrations, and recognitions. A huge shout out to Minh D. for competing in the CHISD Spelling Bee and coming in second place. He will move on to the county competition. Thanks a bunch to Mrs. Powell and Mrs. Johnson for being there to cheer him on along with his family. Various scholars and faculty wore "chucks and pearls" as we celebrated and recognized our country having its first female Vice President who is also the first Black American and the first South Asian American to serve in the position.
The celebrations continued with Mavs Man from the Dallas Mavericks talking to scholars about making better choices, and the key message focused on motivation, action, vision, and solutions (MAVS). Champ was unable to attend due to another engagement. Traditional instruction and online flex learning scholars participated in the assemblies. Primary Montessori scholars had a chance to pose questions to local WFAA meteorologist, Greg Fields, and they enjoyed the time. We capped off the week recognizing those celebrating birthdays, scholars who received positive behavior referrals, and our game winner for the week, Arieanna.
This upcoming week, we look forward to wrapping up the 2nd Nine Weeks and the 1st Semester. Be sure to check Family Access for grades and Schoology for assignments. If you have questions, email teachers directly. Remember that teachers are grading current assignments for traditional instruction and online flex learning, so if past assignments are being completed, please email teachers directly, and keep in mind that there may be a delay.
Finally, K-5 parents of online flex learning scholars should see the assessment information located on below in the newsletter to sign up for a date/time to take the next round of required assessments on campus or during a virtual, scheduled session (Reading is first).
Be sure to keep the following dates(s) in mind:
- January 11-29: CLI/TX-KEA Pre-K/Kindergarten (MOY)
January 29: 2nd Nine Weeks ends (all assignments submitted)

CHISD's Advanced Academics and GT Services has launched a department newsletter with services and field trips specific to GT scholars. Juniors and Seniors enrolled in the Ready, Set, Teach Program at Cedar Hill High will be offering virtual GT enrichment on Fridays. Parents should complete a Google Form stating what day and time they would like the student to participate. Parents would then receive access to the Schoology group where the link to the Google Meet to join the enrichment sessions would be housed.
