Alcohol, Nicotine, Crack, and Marijuana
Alcohol:
Alcohol is a type of drug. College students drinking alcohol is linked to at least 1,400 student deaths and 500,000 unintentional injuries a year. It is legal to drink ONLY if you are 21 and older. Some people think by drinking alcohol it relieves depression but it only makes it worse. Alcohol is the #1 missed used drug in the U.S. Alcohol is depressant which means it slows your brain down. There are over 10.8 underage drinkers in the U.S. Nearly 2 in every 5 8th graders have consumed alcohol.
Nicotine
Nicotine is a legal drug to have. In the U.S. there are more people who have quit smoking than people smoking. Nicotine reaches your brain in 10 seconds. It is a stimulant. 9 out of 10 adult smokers start at age 18. Smoking can give you cancer and lung disease. 1,300 people die each day due to smoking.
Crack
Crack is a stimulant. There is normally an intense high that lasts 15 minutes after taking crack. After the high the user will commonly experience nausea, depression, exhaustion, and a strong craving for the drug. Crack is illegal in the U.S.studies show that about 8.6 million people 12 and over have used cracked. After smoking crack it enters the bloodstream rapidly. If someone drinks alcohol while using crack it can cause sudden death.
Marijuana
Marijuana is the most common used drug in the U.S. If someone started using marijuana as a teenager it affects brain development. It is a stimulant. Some mental affects of marijuana are hallucinations, paranoia, depression, and anxiety. In the U.S. marijuana is illegal.
