Notes from Choir

First Quarter comes to a close!

Well, we all survived...

First Quarter. Always a big transition for our 7th graders and a fresh, new start for all. We have been impressed with the start of the year with our choir kids. They are hard working and they really want to do well. Jesse and I have had so many "redo" opportunities and chances to get help this year. Our kids are really taking advantage of these times to help understand the material and in turn, raise their grade. Our quarter one test grades were the highest class averages EVER. Way to go Sycamore Singers!

This past week...

...was BUSY. I can't believe it is Friday. Notebooks were due on Wednesday. Notebooks are 20% of the students quarter grade. Choir notebooks are basically our "textbook" in class. This is a great opportunity for students to show us their best. Students have a chance to get an extra point for going above and beyond. It's amazing how creative our students can be and how much they care about wanting to do their best. It's really a great life lesson!

Moving forward...

Everyone starts brand new and fresh on Tuesday. Each class will have a new seating chart. This will give each student a chance to sit around and listen to new voices, as well as make a new friend! Students will be informed that starting on Tuesday, perfect effort grades will have to be EARNED. Every student will start out the week with a 9/10. To earn a 10, they will need to volunteer to sing or answer questions! We will be starting a new theory unit on Tuesday with some additional music symbols. It's a much easier unit than Note and Rest Values, so I know they will appreciate the easier material. All choirs will need to start moving forward with their music. Treble Tones is close to starting choreography! Have a fabulous week-end. It's supposed to be beautiful!
