An e-newsletter from Mounds View Public Schools
September 8, 2022
First week of school
Staff were excited to welcome K-12 students back to school this week. Superintendent Lennox stopped by each school to say "hello" and personally welcome staff, students and families.
Student data privacy
Mounds View Public Schools provides access to free and subscription-based digital resources for beneficial services, such as providing high quality instructional resources and increasing efficiency in school operations.
Depending upon the particular educational technology being used, our district may need to collect different types of student data, which is then shared with educational technology vendors through their online sites, services and/or applications. Under Minnesota’s Student Data Privacy Act, educational technology vendors are prohibited from selling or renting a student's information or from engaging in targeted advertising using a student's information.
Mounds View Public Schools has partnered with LearnPlatform to inform staff, students and families about digital resources that have been evaluated by the District Instructional Leadership Team. To see the full library of evaluated resources with ongoing updates, please click here. If you have any questions or concerns about any digital resources used by your child, please contact your child’s teacher.
Children and internet safety discussion
Join us on Wednesday, September 28, from 6:45-8:15 p.m. for a discussion around children and internet safety. The event will take place in-person at the District Center (4570 Victoria St N, Shoreview) and as a virtual event. Access the virtual meeting link here.
Penny Pease, Director of Technology and Susan Herder, Instructional Technology Coordinator, will be speaking about internet safety, app access and the approval process in light of the new student data privacy act.
This event is organized by the Special Education Parent Professional Advisory Council (SEPPAC).

Students can receive urgent text alerts
Shorter email addresses for staff
There is now a shorter email option to reach our employees. You can send email messages to our staff members by using the new alias firstname.lastname@MVPschools.org. Students can also be reached using the @MVPschools.org alias. This change accompanies the shorter URL option of MVPschools.org to access the District website.
If you forget to use the shorter alias, that’s okay. Messages sent to the @moundviewschools.org address will still be delivered, and outgoing emails from staff will still carry the longer address. Both addresses will work successfully.
