Principal's Message

Dear Chehalem Families,

As we enter the last week of this crazy school year I have mixed emotions. I'm excited for all the learning and growth we have made, but also sad that it is ending. We have a lot of fun things planned next week and I know students in school and online will have a fun end of the year.

Some students will be going to Camp Achieve (additional information below), but there aren't nearly enough spots for families who were interested. I hope you are all able to find or create enriching experiences for your children as we head into summer. If you have specific concerns for your children over the summer, please feel free to reach out to the office or Miss T. (our counselor) and we will connect you with resources if we are able.

The two after school events coming up next week are a Kindergarten Popsicles and Play event on Wednesday from 12-1:00 and the 5th Grade celebration on Thursday from 3-4:30. Classroom teachers have sent out specific information about these events.

While mask guidance seems to always be changing, our latest guidance about mask wearing for outdoor events, outside of the school day, is in accordance with the Oregon Health Authority and Oregon Department of Education. Masks are not required after school hours and 6’ physical distancing must be maintained between families to the maximum extent possible. We know that many people still prefer to wear masks and that is up to each family to decide. We would ask that everyone should be respectful to others and their decision to wear/not wear a mask during these two events.

We need to collect all iPads, Chromebooks, hot spots and chargers from students unless they are participating in Camp Achieve or other district summer programs. Students attending in hybrid should bring their devices and chargers on the last day of school and will leave them with their teacher. If hybrid students forget their devices, or if a student is in CDL they may bring their devices and chargers to school any time between 8-4:00 from June 18-25th. There will also be a one time pick-up service at Heather Place and Belleau Woods apartments on Monday, June 21st from 11-12. Look for members from the outreach team to be there to collect items. Library books may also be returned during these times.

Thrive After School program will be housed at Chehalem next year. THRIVE Registration opens to newcomers starting June 21. Click on this link for more information and see the flyers below.

Thank you for notifying the office if your child has any of the primary symptoms of COVID (listed in the photo above). Our office or health staff would reach out to gather additional information and give you guidance. It takes the efforts of the community to keep everyone safe. Primary symptoms listed above.

Let's all enjoy our FINAL week of school. If you have any questions or concerns please contact your child's teacher or the front office.

Sincerely,

Angee Silliman

Principal

Camp Achieve Update

Dear Families,

We are getting excited for Camp Achieve to happen at Fir Grove for the students of Chehalem, Fir Grove, and Hiteon this summer! While we would love to have every student attend that expressed interest, we do have limited spaces.

The Camp Achieve team met and have created the final class lists. If your child is accepted for this summer, you will get a confirmation email by Monday, June 14. PLEASE respond to the few questions in the Googleform that will be attached. You will be asked to confirm your child's attendance for all 15 days, your interest in Day Care (after school), and about transportation. Please reply by Wednesday, June 16th.

If you do not receive a confirmation email, please know that your child will be placed on a waiting list and we will call you if an opening arises.

Thank you,

Deb Starr (Deborah_starr@beaverton.k12.or.us)

Summer Digital Citizenship

DIGITAL CITIZENSHIP: SUMMER

Got families asking about how to stay connected to learning this summer? Here’s a resource you can share with some engaging and interactive digital activities.

The Digital Summer Access Website has tools for reading, math, science, and more.

Students will need their BSD username and password information to access many of these.

Bike Rodeos This Summer

Dear Families,

We are hosting 6 free Bike Rodeos this summer in coordination with the Summer Meal Program. All ages are welcome to join us for a morning of fun on wheels! We will provide bike tune-ups, helmets for those who need them, and a fun bike skills/safety course.

Thank you.

All library books that were checked out during the year are due now. Please return the books to school this week and next. Students can turn books in during class, if they attend live, and there will also be a blue tub outside of the school during school hours through June 25th. You can also return books when the device collection Outreach Team Comes to Heather Place or Belleau Woods on Monday, June 21st from 11-12.
