ACCESS 2.0 Required Face-to-Face Training:
Face to Face Training on December 12 (Session 1) and 15th (Session 2) at the ELD Think Tank. Both sessions will be held at the Lone Tree Library. This is REQUIRED for all ELD Specialists - including charter schools. Team members do not need to attend unless they will play an active role (beyond test administration) in the coordination of ACCESS 2.0. You will receive an ELD Think Tank Agenda soon.
Session 1 and Session 2 Groups
You and your team members are required to have all ACCESS 2.0 online training completed prior to leaving for Winter Break. Please be sure you pass all relevant quizzes at wida.us.
ACCESS 2.0 Team Requirement:
You are required to have a school-based ACCESS 2.0 assessment team. ACCESS 2.0 is a federally mandated assessment for all identified NEP and LEP ELs. Each team member needs to be an active member of the team - under no circumstances should they be a "back-up" administrator only.
ACCESS 2.0 team members must complete the online training for the domains they will administer at wida.us. Please submit your team's information using this form. Training accounts will be created for new team members on December 1, 2017. Team members who have administered ACCESS 2.0 at the same school in previous years should already have a training account. To get to your training account:
- Log-in to wida.us
- Click on "My Account & Secure Portal" (See image below)
- Look for the ACCESS 2.0 Training Course
- Complete the required modules
*Please Note: Quizzes must be passed annually.

ACCESS 2.0 Alternate UPDATE:
Per CDE's ACCESS 2.0 Goldenrod: "Test Administrators administering the Alternate ACCESS must hold a State of Colorado educator license." Paraeducators may not administer Alternate ACCESS.
Materials Delivery:
ACCESS 2.0 Materials will be delivered to the DCSD Warehouse in December. You, your SAC, or a school administrator may pick materials up at the DCSD Warehouse (701 Prairie Hawk Drive) on Monday, December 18th, between 7:30 and 1:30. Any materials not picked up by 1:30 will be sent to your school's SAC via the district mail. ** Please note - you may not begin assessments until the ACCESS 2.0 window opens on January 8, 2017. There are no exceptions. Administering ACCESS 2.0 early will result in a misadministration.
Additional Materials:
Here is the link to the Additional Materials Order Form. You may now place your order for additional materials. We will check this order form daily during the ACCESS testing window. Any orders placed prior to Winter Break will be placed on December 20, 2017.

Enrollment of Potential ELs: W-APT Reminders
When a new student enrolls and a language other than English is listed on the enrollment form, you must administer the W-APT and then collect a body of evidence to determine when the student should be identified as an EL.
Written parent notification of assessment and the family interview are required, and an phone call prior to the end of the school day on which the student was assessed is highly recommended.
State Mandated Testing Information & Accommodations
Here is a link to this year's CMAS Procedures Manual. Page 29 has specific information regarding ELs who are NEP and may need an excusal.
Here is a link to the CMAS Spanish eligibility flowchart.
CDE has released the 2017 State Accommodations Matrix (Crosswalk). You will find accommodations appropriate for ELs who are on and IEP or 504 within this document.
Please connect with your SAC regarding school-specific questions.
Are you CLD endorsed? Do you know someone who is interested in becoming CLD endorsed?
As you know, DCSD requires all ESL teachers to hold, or be in the process of obtaining, the CLD or LDE endorsement. If you are new to DCSD and are still looking for a program to complete your CLD endorsement, CU Denver is one option. If you are interested, please apply soon! Classes begin in January!
Here is the message from previous newsletters . . .
Effective practices are critical in supporting every student in the school experience, including English Learners. DCSD is excited to partner with CU Denver to offer an opportunity for certified staff to earn Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CLD) graduate courses leading to the CLD Endorsement and/or Master's Degree.
If you or someone you know is interested in earning the CLD certificate, endorsement or Master's Degree, please contact Remy Rummel and Cindy Close.
