Academic Talents Recognized

Callahan Middle School is proud to announce that fifteen 7th grade students qualified for the Duke TIP Talent Search. Students qualify for the 7th Grade Talent Search by scoring at or above the 95th percentile on a grade-level standardized test. Enrollment provides benefits that last through the end of high school, including the opportunity to take the ACT or SAT, specialized publications, college prep advice, and access to educational programs. Congratulations!

Mr. Dignan at YMS

Mr. Dignan, Yulee Middle School, is teaching an elective course where students are exploring communications technology and associated careers. As a part of this course, students are also learning American Sign Language. Mr. Dignan's classes are high energy, and his students are extremely engaged in the learning process! By the end of the first period on the first day of school, the entire class was able to successfully sign the entire alphabet!

Electrifying Lessons

Ms. Lundquist's 8th graders were engaged in their science experiences. Her 8th graders learned about electrical conductivity in their learning lab.

Lending Library Promotes Literacy

Mr. Scott Sernaker, from Yulee Middle School, knew that students needed more access to reading materials. To help increase access, he created a "Lending Library" located in the school's cafeteria. His colleagues were eager to help and stocked the shelves with a variety of books. Students are able to use the honor system to check out and return books to this new resource. Way to think outside of the box and increase access to resources for our students, Mr. Sernaker!

It's a Perfect Fit!

On September 22nd, Hilliard Elementary teachers had a "puzzling" faculty meeting. The entire faculty had a Success Celebration and participated in team building activities. The teams had to develop a strategy and then race to put their puzzle together. The winning team received a Teacher Pay Teacher's gift card for their grade level. It was all about working together toward a common goal. They are working together to make sure that everyone succeeds!

Volunteers Welcome!

Hilliard Elementary loves their volunteers! They recently hosted both parent and student volunteers for our annual Volunteer Orientation. Mrs. Tara Libby, our volunteer coordinator, discussed relevant topics and expectations and held an open discussion for those attending.
