USB (Function)

A USB flash drive is a data storage device that includes flash memory with an integrated Universal Serial Bus (USB) interface. USB flash drives are typically removable and rewritable, and physically much smaller than an optical disc.

USB (Importance)

USB flash drives based on Universal Service Bus technology are miniature, inexpensive data storage devices. These portable devices have emerged as the storage device of choice for millions of users and have replaced the floppy drives of earlier computing eras. The many functions and usage possibilities of USB drives have elevated their importance as important computer peripheral devices.

Attributions of a USB

USBs are measured by the amount of information they can carry, which is usually measured by GB (Gigabyte).

Types of USB= $5-$50

Security

  • Secure USB flash drives are protected by hardware encryption, software encryption, biometric methods that require a fingerprint or even a physical combination lock.

Music

  • Music USB flash drives play mp3s and can come with speakers or led displays.

Boot Drives

  • USB flash drives can be turned into boot drives through a utility such as HP's drive key boot utility.

Appearance

  • USB flash drives can differ in appearance from the common flat, finger-sized model to more elaborate designs.

Structure

  • Typically, the USB connector is covered by a removable cap, the connector retracts into the drive or an attached cover swings over the connector to protect it.
