Goodbye Eleanor! We will miss you.
At the beinning of this week we said goodbye to our dear friend Eleanor, who moved to Bangkok to start a new adventure with the rest of her family.
She brought donuts and juices to share with the class and we spent a lot of time playing with her in the playground.
We worked on a farewell gift for Eleanor: A card with the class picture and with all our fingerprints around as a frame decoration.
WE WILL MISS YOU ELEANOR!!!!!!

An A-Maze-Ing Activity
We made a maze with Ms. Javi's help and blew pom poms through it. It was a real challenge to maneuver a pom-pom through the maze only with a straw and some air power. It was difficult enough that we were engaged and challenged, but not so hard that we got frustrated and quit. Perfect!
This was a simple but fun activity to develop fine motor skills, cooperative and social skills and the best part...It was FUN!

SORTING SHAPES
When we arrived at school on Tuesday, we found some pattern blocks and shapes waiting for us on the big table and Ms. Ginni said that it was up to us to decide how we wanted to use these items…
Some of us chose to put our blocks on the lines of the shapes, or on the inside of the shapes…
Some of us chose to put our blocks on the lines of the shapes, or on the inside of the shapes…
While we played, Ms. Ginni invited us to tell her what the name of the shape was.
The objective of the activity was to reinforce the recognition of some basic shapes but this activity is also great for spacial awareness, patterning, sorting, and matching…
We will be doing more with activities such as this on the table to promote independent math-play and exploration.
CONNECTING & LEARNING!
We used this week a building set that put our young minds—and little fingers—into motion!
We created everything from simple constructions to giant geometric shapes.
This was good to practice our eye/hand coordination, to strengthen fine motor control and to practice problem solving.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY KARIM!
This week we celebrated Karim's 4th birthday in the classroom!
His parents came to share with us a healthy and delicious pizza, juices and a beautiful Lego cake!
Before going home, Karim gave us Lego lunchboxes with our names!!! Very cool surprise!!

Mega Balls Magnets!
With this toy we got a fun-filled introduction to magnetism.
We built really crazy structures using the magnetic and colorful balls and rods.

LEARNIGN ABOUT ITALY & THE COLOSSEUM
We know that the world can be a big scary place to preschoolers, and comprehending other environments outside of their own (even within the same country), can be a hard concept to understand.
We will be creating some activities that concentrate on the aspects young students can easily grasp, such as maps, food and pictures of structures, to learn about the country and structure assigned to us for UN DAY.
We are learning about ITALY and the COLOSSEUM!!!
We will also learn some basic Italian words to impress everyone!

PAINTING BALLS
As an art project we read the book The Dot. A cute story about a little girl who discovers art through a simple series of dot paintings. We discussed how the balls sometimes look like dots when we paint them on paper.
We were able to paint our own dots, or not-a-dot, with tempera. These art pieces will be decorating the front part of our classroom.

EXPLORING DIFFERENT KINDS OF BALLS
We began our study of balls with a small and simple lesson about measurement and texture.
During the next two or three weeks the children will explore balls and how they move.
This week they’ve talked about and practiced bouncing, rolling, throwing, catching, and kicking balls.
The children learned how to measure the size of a ball and explored the concept of circumference.

They discussed different options for measuring their balls and tried them out.
We did a rolling balls activity to give the children an opportunity to practice their measuring skills (we used a special measuring tape). Each child rolled his ball and then measured how far it went.
IS THAT A MONSTER?
This was an open ended activity that worked on fine motor skills, motor planning, visual perception, and planning in general as the children did their best to make creatures and structures that will stand up using some balls that had holes in them. We added pipe cleaners, feathers and googly eyes to transform our balls into very odd creatures.
THANK YOU GRANDPA!
This week Lola's Granpa came to visit from California!
Granpa came to share 2 stories with us and we liked how he did so many fun actions during the read aloud of "Eight silly monkeys juming on the bed"
Thank you Grandpa for sharing time with us! See you soon.
We LOVE to have international visitors in our classroom!

Giant Roller Ramps
With Ms. Javi's help we became little builders and we designed our very own giant roller ramp, to use balls of course!!!
We learned how to follow instructions and how to share our ideas without problems.
