Newsletter Week 9, Term 3

Huirangi Primary School, Monday 19th September 2022

Kia Ora Koutou, Hello Everyone!

I have just returned from attending the New Zealand Principal's Association Conference in Christchurch. It was a wonderful three days of listening and learning from some very inspiring leaders and educators from across the country. It is an exciting time in education as our curriculum undergoes a refresh and the Aotearoa New Zealand Histories Curriculum is launched. I must admit it was quite refreshing to be talking about moving forward in education now that the COVID-19 restrictions have been lifted!

The new approach to COVID-19 will only result in minor changes to the way we operate.

The very positive news is that household contacts of a person with COVID-19 do not need to isolate, but instead are asked to complete a RAT test each day, for five days. Therefore, ākonga who are household contacts but test negative and do not have COVID-19 symptoms, should continue to attend. It is the best place for them to be so they can be engaged in their learning, and connected with their teachers, classmates and friends.

With the sad passing of Queen Elizabeth II, school will be closed on Monday 26th September to commemorate her life with the rest of New Zealand.

I would also like to acknowledge the sad passing of Helene Shaw, a teacher from Tikorangi School. Helene's husband, Maurice was our caretake for 6 years. Our love and thoughts are with him and his family during this time.

Hopefully this weather clears for our Colour Run on Thursday!

Ngā mihi nui,

Natalie Looney

Pets Day-Tuesday 25th October

This year we are trialling having our Pets Day on a week day. Tuesday 25th October is the day after Labour Day, which will give all of our students the school holidays, plus the long weekend to prepare.

This is a school day, all students are required to be here. It is going to be loads of fun with lots of food, stalls, raffles and auctions.

We are also going to be having a Men's Cake Auction. So all you budding male bakers out there, start thinking about the amazing creation you are going to bake for us to auction off at the conclusion of Pets Day. This will surely be the biggest money earner that Huirangi Pets Day has ever had!
