Welcome back to the start of what is sure to be a wonderful school year! I hope that you and your family have enjoyed the time off and are anticipating the new school year as much as we are.

I've had the honor of working in the Valparaiso Community School district for the past 8 years and have served in many different roles at both the elementary and middle school levels. I began my educational career as a kindergarten teacher at Central Elementary and am thrilled to come back "home" and have the opportunity to work with such a hard working and dedicated group of individuals.

While this is a year of many changes for all, I am confident that we will create wonderful memories to last a lifetime. It is my hope that you will meet any challenges with determination and excitement, and celebrate all that makes everyone special. Together we will create a year that our kids will never forget and will cherish forever.

I look forward to partnering with you in the coming year to devolop a relationship that will assist in the growth of your child/children. Should you ever have questions, concerns or are in need of further support, please do not hesitate to be in touch.

Again, welcome to the 2017-18 school year. We are so happy that you're here with us!

Please join us for our back to school Open House on Thursday, August 10th from 5:00-6:00 p.m. This is a wonderful opportunity for you and your child to meet his/her teacher, drop off school supplies, and tour the Hayes Leonard building. During the event you will also have the opportunity to purchase student planners and folders, say hello to our specials teachers, and stop by the PTA welcome table to join their mailing list.

In addition, all first grade families will have the opportunity to sign their child up for the Promise Porter County program. Please see below for additional information!

There are a few important changes to make note of regarding the VCS 2017-18 school calendar.

First, the district will no longer be running on a late start Wednesday schedule. This means that school will follow the same schedule Monday through Friday and bus pickup times will be the same throughout the week.

Also, there are half days built in to the calendar for teacher professional development and parent/teacher conferences. Please view the VCS 2017-18 School Calendar to make note of these changes so that you may plan accordingly.

Porter County is coming together to support first grade students in the seven county school corporations in the development of their college and career identity through college and career discovery, academic readiness, and educational savings.

More information will be provided at Open House as well as a chance to register your child for this wonderful opportunity.

Central @ Hayes will be utilizing the Boys and Girls Club for before and after school child care. Below is a note from the B&G Club:
