Thorntown Elementary School 9/2/22

Important Information - Settling in with our routines....

NWEA Testing: We have completed our beginning of year NWEA testing with all students in grades K-6. We will test again mid-year and end-of-year to measure student growth and identify areas of need for instruction and intervention. Expect NWEA reports to come home next week.

Success Period: Each grade level participates in a daily Success Period to address individual learning targets. Students may be pulled for small group instruction or they may be working independently with reading practice, online platforms for skills practice, or other activities designed to grow them as readers, writers, and mathematical thinkers. These groups officially launch this week!

Community Building: Each morning, we strive to set the tone for learning with community building activities. This gives us an opportunity to know one another better and address any needs before jumping in to our school work. This time also fosters a strong sense of community and teamwork. Classes will explore important topics such as healthy habits, good study habits, being a friend, resolving conflict, and so forth. Be sure to continue the conversation at home as these are the skills that keep our school and community a great place for kids!

Parent Teacher Conferences - Oct 11 & 13

We will hold Parent Teacher Conferences on the evenings of Oct 11 & 13. Please contact your child's teacher to schedule your conference. Appointments will fill up fast!

School Vaccines, required for enrollment, must be current by Oct 7

Big picture

Visitors & Volunteers

We are excited to welcome parent volunteers and visitors for special events. We ask that visitors arrive after 8:15 to allow us to get through arrival and secure the building, before opening up the sign-in stations. We will not have visitors join students for lunch, as no visitors will be permitted in the cafeteria during meal times. Please note that all volunteers and visitors to the school must scan in with a driver's license or government-issued identification each time they visit. Volunteers will need to complete a criminal background check prior to helping with classrooms or attending field trips. Regular volunteers will still need their identification to be scanned prior to entry each time they visit. Don't leave home without it!
