There's a Superhero in Each of Us!
September 16, 2016
Susan Royal, FSE Guardian of the Galaxy!
Thank you Susan for organizing our events for Constitution Day today! You help to make FSE a great place to learn!
Also a shout out to Kristen Wiatrek, Rob Currie, and Cynthia Torres for going above and beyond this week!
There is a bulletin board next to the teacher boxes. Please write positive notes of encouragement and recognition to staff members you notice going above and beyond! Each week we will recognize a Superhero of the Week!
Please share our GoFundMe page for 5th grade camp! We appreciate your help and donations!
Calling for FISD Education Foundation Grants
The Floresville ISD Education Foundation (FISDEF) is excited to once again offer teachers the opportunity to apply for grants to support innovative programs or projects that provide higher levels of student learning. The Innovative Teaching Grants are designed to encourage, facilitate, recognize and reward innovative and creative instructional approaches that enhance student academic performance. This year the FISDEF has increased the total amount of grants awarded from $5000 to $15,000. For more details visit the FISD web page http://www.fisd.us/apps/pages/index.jsp?uREC_ID=356110&type=d&pREC_ID=770181. Scroll down to the bottom of the site for application and grant instructions.
All teachers are encouraged to apply. The more applications received, the more grants the foundation can award. Don’t miss the October 21st deadline to submit a grant. Many thanks to the FISDEF members for their support of our most critical asset – our teachers!

PRE-ASSESS IS THE BEST!
Are you looking for a way to pre-assess your students but don’t know where to start? Try utilizing the Vertical Alignment Document! Before you begin a unit, take a look at your VAD and see what skills your students should already have. Create an assessment based on the skills from their previous grade level. This could be as simple as a morning warm-up or an exit ticket. The data from these pre-assessments will be extremely beneficial in recognizing which students will need extra scaffolding before you even begin your next unit!
TEA Changes STAAR A
TEA sent out a letter this week with important changes to the Texas Assessment Program for the 2016-2017 school year. Below are the highlights.
· ETS will be implementing improvements to the way testing materials are shipped, tracked, and processed.
· Beginning with the March 2017 administration of STAAR, students with disabilities and English language learners (ELLs) who are eligible for testing accommodations may receive those accommodations though an enhanced online version of STAAR. These enhancements will allow all students to take the same online test form and eliminate the need for separate STAAR A and STAAR L test forms going forward.
· With this change, districts who chose to do so, can administer all grades and subjects of the general STAAR (English version only) tests to any or all of their students.
TTESS Focus of the Week
