109 Update & Back To School Info

August 14, 2020

Re-Entry Task Force Update

The District 109 Re-Entry Task Force met for the first time this past Monday. You can read a summary of their first meeting, get updated bio information on the members, and read the latest resources at their new dedicated webpage: www.dps109.org/taskforce.

Submit Your Thoughts & Ideas To the Task Force

You can now email taskforce@dps109.org if you have any thoughts, suggestions, or ideas. This email will not respond to you. The district's Director of Communications, Eric Steckling, will monitor the inbox and collect every email to distribute to the entire Task Force on Monday mornings. The Task Force will then review the community feedback as a group as part of their weekly meetings. Any questions will be answered collectively and posted as part of an FAQ on the Task Force web page.

Class Placements Out Today!

In case you hadn't heard: Class placements and schedules for the 2020-2021 school year are now available on Family Access (click the Skyward logo on the District home page to access the login page). If you have trouble logging in to Family Access, contact Kelly Mitchell (kmitchell@dps109.org, 847-945-1844 x7221).

  • Elementary class placement: log into Family Access > click on Student Information > look under General Information - Homeroom.

  • Middle school placements: log into Family Access > click on Student Information > click on Schedule.

Meet & Greets Are This Wednesday!

Look for detailed information from your principal in email this coming Sunday!

Publications Permission Opt-Out

The District uses an “opt out” procedure for publication permissions. Photographs and videos or voice recordings of students and staff are taken throughout the year for use on the district website, newsletters, and social media sites, as well as shared with local media outlets (both print and online). In addition, the District celebrates our students’ success by sharing news of notable achievements with the community. If you do not want your child photographed or videotaped for District 109 use, or his or her name included when he or she is honored for achievement, you must submit an email stating that you do not grant any publication permissions to District 109. Send that email to Eric Steckling, Director of Communications at esteckling@dps109.org. Please include your child(ren)’s name(s), as well as their school and grade for the 2020-2021 school year. Please send your opt out notification by Friday, August 21, 2020.

Directory Information Opt-Out

District 109 maintains directory information and shares it with our parent teacher organizations and other District-connected organizations so that they can keep parents in the loop with the news they need (such as school lunch ordering, after-school enrichment and other events, volunteer opportunities, and educational trips for middle school students). If you wish to opt out of sharing directory information, per Board Policy 7:340, please send an email to Eric Steckling, Director of Communications, at esteckling@dps109.org. Please include your child(ren)’s name(s), as well as their school and grade for the 2020-2021 school year. You only need to opt out of directory information one time (not every year). If you opt out and in the future would like to share your directory information, please do so in writing by sending another email to esteckling@dps109.org. Please send your opt out notification by Friday, August 21, 2020.

Health Forms & Exams Still Due October 15!

State guidance still requires us to obtain all necessary documentation by October 15, regardless of if school is in-person or not. Please visit the Health Information page of the website to determine which health forms you need to submit to the school nurse this year. You can download any forms you need from that page. You can bring them to Meet & Greet next week or we will send additional information about submitting them electronically next week.

In Closing...

We are working hard with our community partners to help families in need during this time, and it's going to take the efforts of everyone in this village to follow the rules, work together, and create a safe environment where we can get students back to school as quickly as possible. To steal a hashtag from Mayor Rosenthal and our village leaders, let's #DoItForDeerfield!
