Delran High School Broadcast

A Message from Mr. Finkle!
Well, I truly did not believe that we would go from September to June without any interruptions, so the past two weeks have been more of a when than an if. I appreciate everyone's patience and flexibility as we transitioned to 100% REMOTE learning during the DHS shutdown. Please know that we are looking forward to welcoming back the teachers and students to 50 Hartford Road on Monday, October 26th! We have truly missed each and every one of you!!!!
As a reminder, though school may only be running from 7:30 - 12:00 on the fully remote schedule, each student is expected to be working until 2:30 and homework may be assigned. This is NOT a half-day for students.
A VERY IMPORTANT REMINDER: If your child is experiencing symptoms, please keep him/her home! Sending a child with symptoms to school endangers the welfare of both your child as well as the entire DHS community. Any symptoms that come into school leaves DHS vulnerable to a school closure. In addition, if your child does show symptoms, please call Mrs. Faith Bowman (nurse) at 856-461-6100 x3011. It is up to all of us to keep each other safe during these times!!!! In addition, there will be Covid-19 testing at the Municipal Building on Monday, October 26th between the hours of 1:00 and 4:00.
With the closure comes many changes to our schedule as we have had to shift certain activities around. The biggest change will be that Wednesday, October 28th will now be a DELAWARE Day! Thursday, October 29th will now be a "check-in" day and the PSATs will be administered to all Sophomores, Juniors, and some select Seniors.
Our College Planning Part 1 and SAT/ACT Information Night has been rescheduled for Tuesday, October 27th. A link will be sent to all Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior Parents with a link to the Guidance presentation. We will also send out a link to a Google Form where you can ask any and all questions regarding the presentation. Due to the environment, the thought of bringing together 60+ people into one room is not a great idea. All are invited to participate in this very important session. This article is a very interesting read regarding the importance of filing early for Financial Aid.
On Thursday, October 29th, remote students are to pick-up supplies and materials that they may need in the coming weeks. This will take place from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. More specific information is posted below. The teachers have been asked to communicate to your children whether they have materials to pick-up! If your child's teacher does not let them know that there are materials to pick-up, you do not need to attend. Future dates for pick-up/drop-off are December 2nd, February 3rd, March 17th, and May 12th.
Governor Murphy through executive order, has stated that there can be no in-person schooling on Election Day. Therefore, Tuesday, November 3rd will be a REMOTE RANCOCAS Day. It will be a FULL DAY running from 7:30 - 2:15. All Rancocas students are expected to be online by 7:30 am to begin their day.
The end of the first marking period is on Wednesday, November 4th, so the end of the marking period testing will also be taking place over the next week and a half.
Just a friendly reminder that school will be closed for the NJEA Convention on Thursday, November 5th and Friday, November 6th. Enjoy the long weekend!
Delran Township's One-to-One Chromebook Initiative
The district, as we have previously communicated, has embarked on a 1:1 Chromebook initiative for the 2020-2021 school year. The Chromebooks are in and will be distributed beginning on Monday, October 26th during Period 1 for Delaware students, Tuesday, October 27th for Rancocas students, and Thursday, October 29th for ALL remote students (it will be in your child's bag at pick-up.)
The Chromebooks are accompanied by a carrying/protective case and a charger. It is imperative that students bring their Chromebook to school EVERY DAY and that it is fully charged. DHS will NOT have charging stations and the use of the Chromebooks are imperative for each of your child's classes.
In addition, parents must sign-off on policies that students must adhere to each and every year. HERE is a link to FamilyID for you to sign-off on the policies. We ask that this be completed by Friday, October 30th.

Both hybrid and remote sophomores, juniors, and some seniors will be taking the PSAT/NMSQT on Thursday, October 29th from 7:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. This test is beneficial to juniors who test because they may qualify for scholarships and other types of academic recognition.
Busing will be provided for both hybrid and remote Delaware and Rancocas students who normally are provided a bus. A letter has been mailed home detailing the test. Students are expected to arrive at the building no later than 7:20 a.m. Upon arrival, students will report to their designated testing area. Students’ testing areas will be posted on the walls near the cafeteria and gym. On the test day, students should bring:
Two (2) - No.2 pencils
Certain items are prohibited in the testing area. The PSAT/NMSQT consists of evidence-based reading and writing as well as math sections. If students would like to see what the PSAT/NMSQT will be like, they can take this online practice test and evaluate their answers using the practice test answer key. There will be no 8-minute virtual teacher check-ins on this day.
If you have any questions, please contact Dr. Danielle Bowen at email@example.com.
Remote Students Pickup Supplies Day
For Freshmen and Seniors, we ask that you please use the bus lane to drive up to the doors outside the cafeteria and Performing Arts Center between the hours of 1:00 and 3:00 pm. We will have runners working to assist with this process.

DHS College Planning Session Part 1
DHS College Planning Session: Part 1 will be a virtual presentation by the Guidance Department on Tuesday, October 27th at 6 pm. A link to the recorded presentation will be sent out to every member of the community. We felt that recording the presentation will be a better resource as you can always go back and review throughout the next 12 months.
We will also provide a Google Form for questions about the presentation. We will then publish a FAQ abaout the presentation. As always, you can also reach out directly to your child's counselor directly.
This presentation will give an overview of the Junior Timeline for:
- Standardized Testing
- Using Naviance
- NCAA Eligibility
We hope that you will view the presentation. The college process is a family affair and everyone needs to be on the same page!
All students 10th -12th have an account.
Naviance is a web-based tool that allows your student to explore their values, personality, strengths and correlate them to career clusters. It directs them to colleges with suggested majors so that they can build a list of colleges to explore.
Seniors and Juniors can see upcoming college visitations and request to attend directly in Naviance.
All students should be building their personal activity resume.
Ask your student to share with you what they are doing in Naviance.
- Students at all grade levels are encouraged to begin exploring colleges
- Build your list of colleges of interest in Naviance.
- Consult the Guidance website’s subsection, “College and Career Virtual Tours and Information”. Check this page often as it is updated when new tour and virtual Open Houses are made available. Many events are exclusively for DHS students and may require registration for select events.
Throughout the school year scholarships are posted on the Guidance webpage, listed in Naviance, search engines are in Collegeboard.org, and Fast-web.com.
Click here for currently available scholarships.
Mr. Guidotti's Update
The Delran Athletic Department has gone through some difficult times recently but we are so proud of the work that the students and coaches are doing to stay in shape, focused and prepared for the coming weeks when we can get back on the field, court and course. Thank you to everyone for your patience, flexibility and understanding during this time of uncertainty. We will get through this difficult time if we follow the guidelines of the CDC and the Department of Health.
The following contests will be coming up next week for the Delran Bears:

- Girls' Tennis on 10/29 vs Palmyra
- Girls' Soccer on 10/27 @ Moorestown Friends and 10/29 @ Burlington Township
- Freshman Girls' Soccer on 10/30 @ Burlington Township

Due to restrictions from the Governor’s office, limitations on spectators must occur so everyone can remain safe. Masks and Social Distancing must be followed at all times on Delran Township property. At this time, we are not allowing students at contests because of spacing and the inability to maintain social distancing. If the Governor changes any of the restrictions, the Delran community will be notified.
For Varsity Football games home and away, only individuals with special passes will be allowed on the property due to outdoor limitations on attendance by the Governor.
