Delran High School Broadcast

October 21, 2020

Delran High School, an inclusive learning community, provides educational opportunities for intellectual development while valuing the importance of cultural diversity and tradition.

A Message from Mr. Finkle!

Well, I truly did not believe that we would go from September to June without any interruptions, so the past two weeks have been more of a when than an if. I appreciate everyone's patience and flexibility as we transitioned to 100% REMOTE learning during the DHS shutdown. Please know that we are looking forward to welcoming back the teachers and students to 50 Hartford Road on Monday, October 26th! We have truly missed each and every one of you!!!!

As a reminder, though school may only be running from 7:30 - 12:00 on the fully remote schedule, each student is expected to be working until 2:30 and homework may be assigned. This is NOT a half-day for students.

A VERY IMPORTANT REMINDER: If your child is experiencing symptoms, please keep him/her home! Sending a child with symptoms to school endangers the welfare of both your child as well as the entire DHS community. Any symptoms that come into school leaves DHS vulnerable to a school closure. In addition, if your child does show symptoms, please call Mrs. Faith Bowman (nurse) at 856-461-6100 x3011. It is up to all of us to keep each other safe during these times!!!! In addition, there will be Covid-19 testing at the Municipal Building on Monday, October 26th between the hours of 1:00 and 4:00.

With the closure comes many changes to our schedule as we have had to shift certain activities around. The biggest change will be that Wednesday, October 28th will now be a DELAWARE Day! Thursday, October 29th will now be a "check-in" day and the PSATs will be administered to all Sophomores, Juniors, and some select Seniors.

Our College Planning Part 1 and SAT/ACT Information Night has been rescheduled for Tuesday, October 27th. A link will be sent to all Freshman, Sophomore, and Junior Parents with a link to the Guidance presentation. We will also send out a link to a Google Form where you can ask any and all questions regarding the presentation. Due to the environment, the thought of bringing together 60+ people into one room is not a great idea. All are invited to participate in this very important session. This article is a very interesting read regarding the importance of filing early for Financial Aid.

On Thursday, October 29th, remote students are to pick-up supplies and materials that they may need in the coming weeks. This will take place from 1:00 to 3:00 pm. More specific information is posted below. The teachers have been asked to communicate to your children whether they have materials to pick-up! If your child's teacher does not let them know that there are materials to pick-up, you do not need to attend. Future dates for pick-up/drop-off are December 2nd, February 3rd, March 17th, and May 12th.

Governor Murphy through executive order, has stated that there can be no in-person schooling on Election Day. Therefore, Tuesday, November 3rd will be a REMOTE RANCOCAS Day. It will be a FULL DAY running from 7:30 - 2:15. All Rancocas students are expected to be online by 7:30 am to begin their day.

The end of the first marking period is on Wednesday, November 4th, so the end of the marking period testing will also be taking place over the next week and a half.

Just a friendly reminder that school will be closed for the NJEA Convention on Thursday, November 5th and Friday, November 6th. Enjoy the long weekend!

Delran Township's One-to-One Chromebook Initiative

The district, as we have previously communicated, has embarked on a 1:1 Chromebook initiative for the 2020-2021 school year. The Chromebooks are in and will be distributed beginning on Monday, October 26th during Period 1 for Delaware students, Tuesday, October 27th for Rancocas students, and Thursday, October 29th for ALL remote students (it will be in your child's bag at pick-up.)

The Chromebooks are accompanied by a carrying/protective case and a charger. It is imperative that students bring their Chromebook to school EVERY DAY and that it is fully charged. DHS will NOT have charging stations and the use of the Chromebooks are imperative for each of your child's classes.

In addition, parents must sign-off on policies that students must adhere to each and every year. HERE is a link to FamilyID for you to sign-off on the policies. We ask that this be completed by Friday, October 30th.
