Email Security Changes: Please Read
We know that there continues to be a significant number of phishing/impersonation emails received by district staff. These messages range from simple annoyance to something that could possibly cause a significant security breach. In order to mitigate the chances of this happening, we will be implementing a couple of changes to the email system on Wednesday, October 30:
- Enable anti-impersonation settings. The system will examine the address in the ‘From:’ field to see if it matches a true FCS user. If there’s a match, but the email trace shows that it came from an external email system, the message will be classified as junk/spam and placed in the ‘Junk Email’ folder. Related, please be sure to regularly check your ‘Junk Email’ folder for improperly classified messages.
- Enable message header for messages originating from outside sources. Our email system will now prepend all emails from non-FCS users with a clearly-visible banner message. This unmistakable cue will make it readily apparent that the message originated outside FCS, even if the sender purports to be an official FCS employee/department representative. The banner message looks like the image below. We have also attached a short video explaining the message header.
Banner Message
Thank you for your understanding as we work to protect the students and staff of Forsyth County Schools.

-Preview will not be available for external emails
