Welcome to the Dearborn!

We're not done yet! We have so much work to do with students, staff, programs, and culture. The work is exciting, challenging, exhausting, and rewarding. Our students and families are worth all of our collective efforts. Thank you for working with us and supporting us.

We have one week remaining before the annual February vacation. After a review of the progress of all students we believe there are some students who could benefit from extra support in the classroom, and during the vacation break we will offer a four day Acceleration Academy. If you think you know a DSA student who can benefit please contact the school and speak to Dean David Moreno or Principals Dana Brown or Shelley Olsen.

February Vacation for students not attending the Acceleration Academy is February 18-22. Students return to school on February 25.

Our first DSA concert!

Under the direction of teacher Yolanda Knight our first ever middle school-high school band played at our Parent-Teacher Conference night last Thursday. We need music in all of our schools! Bravo to Ms. Knight and our students, many of whom picked up an instrument for the first time this year. Wow!

Staff participates in mini-courses...

This past Wednesday marked the 3rd and final sessions of DSA's first-ever staff-led mini-courses. The concept of staff-led mini-courses aligns to all of DSA's Principles of High Quality Professional Learning, but the following principles are especially relevant:
  • The ultimate goal of professional learning is increased student learning; we get to that goal through improved teaching.
  • Professional learning creates opportunities for adults to learn with and from each other.
  • Professional learning builds on assets and leverages them for whole school improvement.
  • Teachers must have agency in their learning.
