News from Room 137
October 9, 2015
The first night of Parent/Teacher conferences was last night. I enjoyed meeting with many of you and sharing your child's progress with you. I look forward to meeting with the rest of you on Tuesday!
Our class will be visiting the book fair on Monday during media class. Students are welcome to bring money to purchase books at that time.
Español
Srta. Iglesias worked with small groups again this week. The students read leveled Spanish books with her to practice fluency and comprehension. She will work with the students on the Spanish spelling words for Theme 2 the week of Oct. 12-14. The test for those spelling words is on Wednesday, Oct. 14.
This week we...
- completed work word activities using palabras con h.
- learned about personal pronouns and practiced writing sentences that used them correctly.
- finished typing the biografía about a classmate. Look for them on display in the hallway outside our room!
- continued ¡OLE! (Oportunidad de Leer en Español) – independent reading time in Spanish!
Literacy and Social Studies
- began our first social studies theme about American Indian cultural regions. We are learning about seven different groups of American Indians. The students are applying what they learned in Spanish about text features as we read the social studies text in English.
- read and discussed an issue of Scholastic News.
Math
We will finish Unit 1, Number Theory, the week of October 12-14. The students will write the prime factorization of numbers and review the skills of the unit. The Unit 1 test will be on Wednesday, October 14.
