Message From the Principal
Dear Wheeler Families,
I would like to thank all parents, teachers, support staff, and students for yet another wonderful school year! This is my 4.5 year at Wheeler and I have enjoyed every minute of it (well most minutes :)! I look forward to continuing to grow together as a fine school community!
Thank you for all of your support to ensure ALL of our students grow into best learners they can be and great citizens!

PTO CORNER
Wheeler is very fortunate to have a very hard working, dedicated PTO who average one event a month. Some events are fundraisers and some are simply just to bring Wheeler Families together for great fun and community.
Thank you very much Wheeler PTO for:
- Organizing the Mayfair/June Jamboree at no profit to the PTO
- 5th grade picnic at Norton Park- Hotdogs and Hamburgers!
- Making sure every Wheeler Student received a yearbook at no cost to families
- Two scholarships for graduating seniors

Wheeler Students can earn a Leader of the PACK certificate from their teacher when they demonstrate positive behaviors having to do with Participating, Achieving, Cooperating and Knowing they can succeed!

Students earn blue tickets throughout the day for demonstrating positive behaviors at Wheeler School. In turn, they have opportunities to exchange these tickets to participate in fun activities! Below are some examples.

Students Share Their Individual Goals!
As part of highly effective teaching and learning, students develop their own individual goals along with action plans. They voluntarily share their goals with the entire school on Wednesday morning announcements. Lastly, they post their goals on our goal sharing display located across from the cafeteria!

Kinders visit the Plainville Firehouse!!
Kinders had a great time at the fire house! We learned how to stop, drop and roll in case of a fire, we learned how to crawl on the floor so we don't get smoke in our bodies, we learned what the firemen really do and they protect themselves. It was informative, fun and interesting to learn about our community firefighters!

COIN WARS AT WHEELER
Wheeler's grade levels competed with 5th grade collecting the most coins! Wheeler wrote a check to the Relay for Life Cancer Fundraiser for over 400 dollars!
Barnes Nature Center visits First Grade!!
On Tuesday May 2, First Grades were treated to a visit from Barnes Nature Center/Indian Rock. Students learned about the the types of frogs that can be found in CT, from the largest -the bull frog, to the gray tree frog. They listened to different sounds that frog make and how they differ. The male is the on that makes the sound. Also, they got to touch a variety of frogs an notice the different marks for each type. Secondly, students learned about various woodland animals and saw a leatherback turtle shel( not woodland)l, a box turtle that walked around and an adult newtas well as a variety of birds and animals.
Mikata visits Wheeler!!
Mikata means "all together". They are a musical trio who taught us, through singing and dancing all together, African American and Puerto Rican traditional music!
