Leadership Message
Listen, Learn, Have fun!
As I was outside one morning this week I had the blessing of watching one of our dads go through a morning ritual with his daughter before school. Before she ran off to greet her friends and start her day, he asked, "What are you going to do today?" To which she enthusiastically replied, "Listen, learn and have fun!" What a beautiful moment to observe.
Two things struck me...first, the joy that was evident from parent to child about learning and school. Parents are a child's first and most important teacher and modeling a love of learning to our children creates a solid foundation for life-long learning. Teaching our children that school is a place and space where learning is important helps build their intrinsic motivation. It is fun to learn, grow and connect!
The second thing that was apparent was the simple but powerful message of responsibility. Helping teach our kids that they are the captains of their ships of learning, we are their crew. Learning is not something that is done to you, it is a interactive and active process that builds brains and fosters relationships.
We know that many parents have similar morning routines that foster a love of learning. Even on those challenging mornings of "I don't want to...I am nervous...I don't think I can do it...", thank-you parents and guardians for bringing them and modeling that school is a safe and caring, faith-filled place where important learning and growing happens every moment. Thank-you for your partnership and entrusting us with your most precious gifts.
Have an amazing Family Day weekend-may God's abundant blessings surround your family this weekend and always!
Blessings,
Mrs. Boehm
Welcome to our new Assistant Principal, Mrs. Cathy Hinger!
Dear St.John XXIII Families,
I am very excited to be joining the fantastic team here at St. John XXIII Catholic School as Assistant Principal and Grade Four teacher. I have been an educator for 15 years and have been blessed to teach and coach a number of grades from grade 2 to 8. Over the years I have had great opportunities as a teacher and administrator to learn and grow in my Catholic faith and in my professional practice and I am dedicated to learn and lead in a faith-based, inclusive, student centered environment.
On a personal note, my favourite things to do is to spend time with my family. We like to do many activities together but most of all we like relaxing at our family cabin. I love to read, cook, garden and participate in activities that keeps me active.
My vision for students is to build their foundation in faith based upon the teachings of Jesus. I strongly believe students need to feel supported, encouraged, engaged and challenged in their learning and that through positive relationships with others can strive to be the best they can be.
I look forward to being part of the St. John XXIII school community and welcome the opportunities I will have to meet you.
Yours in Christ,
Mrs. Cathy Hinger
