Temperature Guidelines for recess and before school
Now that we are in the cold weather season please be reminded to send your child with the appropriate winter gear to ensure they are properly equipped for the weather while they are outside while here at school. Below are the guidelines we use to determine whether students go out for recess or stay inside.
Our school adheres to the following wind-chill temperature guidelines:
Full Recess: 11 degrees or higherInside Recess: 10 degrees or below
Kindergarten and 1st Grade: During Guidance we are moving into our Feelings segment of the year. Students are working on recognizing what feelings look like on other's faces and bodies. Being able to recognize how someone feels will help them when we begin learning about empathy. In order to understand and feel how someone else is feeling, we must first be able to figure out how they are feelings.
2nd and 3rd Grade: Empathy was introduced to these students in kindergarten and first grade but now as they move into second and third grade we transition the discussion to accepting differences and showing care and compassion. For the month of December we will be working on how to show compassion: Empathy in Action. Not only can we understand how someone feels, but we can also ask ourselves what we can do to show we care about how they feel.
