Scott 6th Grade Center's Motto- "We Enter to Learn and Leave to Achieve"
What Has Been Happening in Ms. Holdsworth's Classes?
Mrs. Holdsworth's ELA classes are right in the middle of Module 2 in our Wit and Wisdom program - The Hero’s Journey. They have been reading the first book Ramayana: Divine Loophole, and have been discussing how the ARCHETYPES are very similar to the characters in our favorite Super Hero movies and stories! Students have been learning new vocabulary along the way and are able to see how karma has played a role in moving our stories along and that the hero Rama, along with his allies, follow the idea of dharma and strive to do what is right and just : ). As students become even more familiar with the stages of the hero’s journey, they will use what they have learned to tackle The Odyssey. Along our own 6th grade journeys, Ms. Holdsworth's students are continuing to work on writing skills on many levels, from ensuring the use of capital letters and punctuation while responding with complete sentences to making sure we are giving specific text evidence when answering questions.
Congratulations to Our Science Fair Participants
Congratulations Ms. Kaptur and all our Science Fair Participants. Thursday's Science Fair was a success!
We had various different projects reflecting interests in: plants, mold, gears, motors, technology and more! Our judges were incredibly impressed with the students' presentations and hard work. Any students that participated in our Science Fair are invited to take their project to the District Fair that will be held in the CASH Cafeteria from 12:00 to 2:00. All families are invited to walk through the cafeteria and see the projects.
I would like to take the time to congratulate our students that placed at the Science Fair. The top 5 projects will be moving on to the county fair.
Congratulations to the following students:
1st Place: Julia Russo
2nd Place: Lucas D'Amato and Jacob Morales
3rd Place: Mia Hand
4th Place: Mark Moles
5th Place: Paul Carpenter, Finn Randler, and Ian Porter
Honorable Mention: Katie Scheivert and Elizabeth Abbott
We are so proud of all of our Science Fair Participants. You are ROCKStars!
Reading Royals Field Trip, February 6, 2024
We are looking forward to taking our whole building on this trip. Please have all payments in RevTrak by Monday, January 29th.
Permission slips went home a few weeks ago, please fill them in and have your student return them to their WIN teacher.
Benchmark Testing Continues This Week
Students will continue their benchmark testing this week. With our delay and Flexible Instruction Days last week, students will be working on both Math and ELA testing this week.
In Math, they will complete the IXL diagnostic test and take the NWEA MAP Benchmark test online. In ELA, they will take the Acadience Benchmark which tests their fluency (how quickly they can read) and their retell quality (how accurately and how much they can recall about what they read).
I know our staff and I are looking forward to celebrating the growth our students have made from the beginning of the year until now. We will share their scores with them and discuss their achievement and goals for the end of the year.
Please take some time this week to remind your student to do their best on these Benchmark tests as it is a way to show how much they are learning and growing.
