A Week In The Woods

by: Andrew Clements

Theme

The theme of A Week In The Woods is about a boy named Mark trying to prove to his new science teacher Mr. Maxwell that he is not just a rich kid or a slacker. But it might be too late for Mark to change Mr. Maxwell's mind about him. We learned that you should not judge a book by it's cover.

Character traits of Mark

The three character traits of Mark is brave because ran away from the camp site and into the woods by himself.

He's also smart because he searched up how to survive in the wilderness on a computer.

The last character trait is he's determined to find his way back to the camp site because he

got lost in the woods.

How Mark changed

Mark changed over time at first he was sad because he had to go home and he took blame for a knife. Then he became brave because he got out of Mr. Maxwell's truck and ran off into the woods where Black Bears live.

Setting

We think the mood for A Week In The Woods is scary because Mark ran off into the woods

were Black Bears live. Another reason we think it is really scary is because not only did he

ran off into the woods but he was by his self. Wouldn't you be scared in the woods without anyone with you?

Summary of A Week In The Woods

The fifth grade Week in the Woods is where there is a tradition of Hardy Elementary that they go on a camping trip to The Grays Notch State Park and stay there for a week. But it might be too late for mark to change Mr. Maxwell's mind of him. Mark is trying to prove that he is not just a kid that the teacher cannot stand. Then Mark put him and Mr. Maxwell into severe danger. Can two such strong men work together?

Recommendations

We Recommend this book because it takes place in the woods and a lot of books we read with our class take place in the woods. Also, A Week In The Woods does the same thing it takes place in the woods. We also recommend this book because it is by Andrew Clements and a lot of people in our class like Andrew Clements.
