We Care, I Can: Canned Food Drive
This November the Shawnee Mission School District will once again participate in the annual “We Care I Can” food drive to benefit the Johnson County Christmas Bureau ( http://www.jccb.org). With continued economic challenges and the growing number of Johnson County families in need, the efforts of the Shawnee Mission School District are even more deeply appreciated
At Prairie we will be collecting all donated items in the front foyer as well as just inside the east door on the backside of the building. We have set a goal of collecting 1,000 items as a school and our wonderful 6th grade leaders will be helping with the collection, the counting, the boxing and the packaging for pick up.
The items most needed are: canned tomatoes, fruit, corn, peas, cereal, macaroni & cheese, jello, peanut butter, dry baby food, canned meat, canned dinners and soups.
Growth Mindset Theme: I Am A Valued Member of This Learning Community
This month we will focus on the power of building strong, nurturing relationships within our learning community. We want to be sure each classroom provides a safe environment for students to take on challenges and make mistakes. We want your children to know we have faith in their abilities to achieve and we want them to embrace our feedback as they face obstacles along the way!
Check out this photo of a bulletin board created by our office aide, Julie Keogh! Prairie Panthers walk by it on their way to the cafeteria.
Book Fair: Classroom Visits 11/03 & 11/04
We are so excited to be able to have an in-person book fair for our students next week! The book fair is taking place on November 3rd and November 4th. Each class has a scheduled time to visit and shop the fair. Please check the PTA newsletter this Sunday for these scheduled times!
To ensure your child is ready to shop, please create a book fair (or “eWallet”) account for them. Since we are unable to staff the in-person book fair with volunteers, this eWallet account will be the only form of payment used (no cash, checks, or credit cards). To learn more about eWallet accounts and to setup an account for your child(ren), please click on this link. Then, click on “Get Started” in the green rectangle labeled eWallet.
If there are special people in your life who enjoy buying books for your child(ren), you can share your child’s eWallet link with them. Once you create your child’s eWallet account, you will have the option to share this link. This link can be sent to anyone who would enjoy contributing money to your child’s book fair (eWallet) account while supporting Prairie at the same time!
In addition to our in-person fair, we will have an online fair taking place November 2nd - November 15th. You can use your eWallet account to shop the online fair as well! Starting Nov 2, you will use the same link below and then shop just like on any other website. Prairie PTA will benefit from each sale whether in-person or online! Thank you in advance for your support!
