Kreft School Counseling Newsletter
August 2016
Welcome Back!
I am so excited to be starting the 2016-2017 school year. This is my second year as the school counselor at Kreft. As the school counselor I teach guidance lessons to Kindergarten and First grade classes on a six day rotation. This year I will be using a new resource, Second Step, to teach the following skills: Skills for Learning, Empathy, Emotion Management, and Problem Solving. As the school counselor I also work with small groups of students, individual students, collaborate with teachers, and provide familial support and connection to outside resources.
New Website
The Kreft School Counseling Department has a new website this year. Check out http://www.kreftcounselor.weebly.com for updates, information, and resources throughout the year!
NEW!!! Guidance Classroom
I am excited to share that this year I will have my own classroom and students will come to me for guidance lessons. There are three expectations for my classroom: 1) Be Respectful, 2) Be Responsible, and 3) Be Safe. Students will have opportunities to practice and apply the skills learned in guidance lessons. During center rotations they will have to work together in small groups and develop social skills, self-regulation, problem solving, etc. through cooperative play opportunities.
Cozy Corner
This is where I will meet with individual students and small groups.
Puppet Center
An exciting place to practice and apply social skills.
Lego/Playhouse Center
A fun interactive place for students to play and work together.
Mobile Food Pantry: Food Bank for the Heartland

This year we are excited to announce the additional of a Mobile Food Pantry! The food pantry will take place at Kreft once a month starting in September. All families are welcome to attend. Please pay attention to upcoming newsletters and school communication for specific pantry dates.
