Collaborative Planning - February 15

Please register for both an AM and a PM session in Eduphoria. We will NOT meet as a large group. Use the day to plan with your team, think about how you can incorporate some high-yield strategies and purposeful student talk, and do those other things that need to be done before Spring Break - i.e. STAAR Training and annual Dyslexia review.

Let me know if you have questions. Thanks!

HEB Excellence in Education

Allen ISD is one of 5 districts in the state of Texas to be a finalist for the HEB Excellence in Education Award. This nomination is a direct result of what YOU do every day. Judges will be in the district on February 19th. They are not scheduled to come to Norton, but if you see a stranger, smile when you ask for their identification. :)

Substitutes and Absences

As of February 1st, teachers and staff have saved the district about $100,000 over last year in substitute costs. What a difference! That is terrific for our bottom line, but also terrific for our students who learn more when their teachers are here. Thank you for being thoughtful about your use of days.

As I'm sure you might imagine, Mondays and Fridays are the hardest days to fill substitute jobs. If you know you will need to be out sometime this semester, please put your absence in early and find a good sub. We will let you know when we reach our maximum number of requests and cannot approve any additional personal days.

Shout out to Kindergarten!

Kindergarten attended a math training on Monday afternoon and implemented it on Tuesday. The IS was out today to film them in action. Way to go, Kindergarten! thanks for continuing to learn and grow!

PTA Fundraising Focus

The PTA Board will be meeting this month to discuss next year's budget. Their first question is always "What does the school need?" If you have ideas for PTA purchases that you would like to have considered please email me and let me know. Thanks!

Staff Spotlight - Rachel Hardin

Staff Spotlight

Where did you grow up?

I was born in Seoul, South Korea. I was adopted when I was about 6 months old and grew up in Longview, TX.

Describe your family.

I am an only child, but my mom watched lots of children during the day so there were always kids at my house! I was never lonely! My husband is an only child and we are continuing that tradition with our only (Jace).

What university did you attend?

Texas A&M University-Commerce

What are your favorite activities?

I LOVE theater! I was a theater kid in high school and my uncles teach speech and theater at St. Lawrence University in upstate New York. I try to see as many shows as I can as they tour. I also love to read! Another one of my favorite things to do is work out. I attend Camp Gladiator a few times a week. It is my therapy!

If you had $1000 to spend on anything, what would you spend it on?

I would spend it on a relaxing vacation!

What is your favorite reality TV show?

I like to watch the Food Network and the Cooking Channel. I love to cook! I also love watching documentaries on Netflix.

If you were not a teacher, what would you be?

I would love to be like Lisa Ling and travel around making mini documentaries. I think it would be so interesting to see how other people live and to explore different topics!

Happy birthday this week to Kathy Stone!
