A Message from the Principal
Lauren Meeks
October 19, 2018
Happy Friday!
We have had a great week of learning at Parkside, despite the wet, cold weather.
With wet, cold weather comes yucky germs and illness. Please make sure you are encouraging your child to take the proper precautions to decrease the spread of germs. At school, we encourage students to wash hands before eating, cough and sneeze in their elbow, and our teachers and custodial staff disinfect desks and door knobs regularly. Even though we try our hardest to keep the germs away, illness is, unfortunately, inevitable. In the event that your child becomes ill, please make sure you are aware of the District Exclusion Guidelines (noted below for your convenience.
"LISD follows the Texas Department of Health Guidelines for illness-related exclusions from school. A student will be sent home if they have a fever of 100.0 Fahrenheit or above or any other contagious symptoms (vomiting, diarrhea, etc.) and will need to remain home until symptom free for twenty-four (24) hours, and without the use of medications. For our older students able to drive, parent permission must be obtained via email or fax after contact with the campus clinic, before a student will be allowed to drive home."
If you have questions about this policy, you can contact our school nurse, Caitlin Lanier.

Attendance Reminders
Students are able to enter our building as early as 7:20 in the morning and go directly to their classrooms. The tardy bell rings at 7:45. Students are expected to be in the building when the bell rings in order for teachers to begin instruction immediately. Tardiness is hard on both the student and the teacher because instruction is missed and has to be repeated for tardy students. Students who enter the building after the tardy bell rings, at 7:45am, will be given a tardy slip from the front office to be admitted into class. Student arriving after the 7:45am bell will not be permitted to go to class until signing in at the front office. We appreciate your understanding of this district policy.
The attendance bell rings at 8:45am. If a student comes in after the attendance bell, they will be considered absent for the day, and a note will need to be provided to the front office to excuse the absence. Student illness, medical appointments, and funerals are some of the reasons an absence will be considered excused.
We know there can be extenuating circumstances from time to time, but we want to emphasize how important it is for students to be on time and present in school as much as possible throughout the year. Again, we appreciate your support and understanding.
