Principal's Message
It was great to see so many of our students and families at our second materials pick up days. ALL STUDENTS HAD/HAVE MATERIALS TO PICK UP. If you did not get your child's bag this week, please call the office 630-636-3200 to let us know when you can stop by to get it. Your child will need items in these bags for instruction moving forward.
STAR Testing begins September 21st for grades 4 and 5. More communication will be coming next week, but please know that the remote learning schedule and instruction will likely look different during your child's testing week.
Worth repeating:
Reminders for Live Sessions: The students are doing great with ensuring their microphone is off when not speaking. Please remember background noise & conversations can be heard when microphones are on. When videos are on, the background can be seen as well. Please be cognizant of sights and sounds around anyone in a live session. We appreciate your support with this.
Also, if your child has headphones or earbuds, it might be easier for them to hear and block out distractions. Please consider ones with an in-line or connected microphone. Again, when students are unmuted, all background noise in the house is audible to everyone in the group.

Productive Struggle
In a traditional classroom setting, students don't have all the answers. Actually, we don't want them to. We purposefully plan lessons that challenge. We call it Productive Struggle. When students work through a challenging problem, they experience grit and perseverance. In the classroom, we give wait time, ask questions to find the "Point of Confusion," and allow students to discover answers. It is important to let this process happen. As parents, we so badly want to help our children. It's what we do! Be sure to give your child the time to exert effort, get things incorrect, and learn from mistakes.

KNITTING CLUB IS BACK! Sign up by TONIGHT!!!!
Mrs. Murgas will be sponsoring knitting club again this year. Since the club at the moment is virtual, it will be limited to students who already know how to knit (finger knitting, loom knitting, or knitting with knitting needles). The club is designed to provide students time to practice and improve their knitting skills. The club will meet on 13 Monday afternoons from 3:30-4:30 pm. Dates are as follows: Sept. 14, Sept. 21, Sept. 28, Oct. 5, Oct. 19, Oct. 26, Nov. 2, Nov. 9, Nov. 16, Nov. 30, Dec. 14, Dec. 21, Jan. 11. (There will be another Knitting Club starting in late January as well.) Students will need to provide their own knitting needles and/or knitting loom and yarn. The cost of the club is $25.00 and will be paid through PushCoin. If you have any questions, please contact Mrs. Murgas:

Tips for Parents
Wednesdays - Your child must sign in to their homeroom Google Classroom in order to be "present."
Attendance
Student attendance will be taken each day. While we understand that all families have different situations and circumstances related to how the school day will look, we also are flexible in terms of attendance. Students will need to either log in and participate in a Go Live session, complete the assignments that are due for that day, or complete the question of the day to account for attending. Parents need to know that grades will be taken for all subjects taught, and students are responsible for the material that is taught and discussed during the Go Live sessions.
If your student is feeling ill, or will not be able to participate in any of the above portions of the day, you are required to call your student in absent, just as you would if we were in attendance here at Lakewood Creek. You can call in your attendance at (630) 636-3201. We will be calling families whose students have not participated and have not called their student in as absent for that day.
