A WORD FROM OUR TEACHERS
iReady Testing for Grades 6-10
Over the course of the next week, grades 6 to 10 will be will be taking the iReady Assessment. The students will be assessed in math and reading. Included are some resources to help guide you and your child through this process: a video (which will give you better understanding on why we use this assessment) and a checklist on how you can support your child.

Testing Schedule:
6th grade will test on Thursday and Friday, starting at 7:45am
7th grade will test on Thursday and Friday, starting at 7:45am
8th grade will test on Thursday and Friday, starting at 7:45am
9th grade will test on Monday and Tuesday, starting at 7:45am
10th grade will test on Monday and Tuesday, starting at 7:45am
Teacher's, Faculty and Administration have been working around the clock to make this unforgettable year a success. Continue to be patient with us as we teach virtually and in-person like never before.

National Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month begins September 15, through October 15.
¿SABÍAS? DID YOU KNOW?
The reason why Hispanic Heritage Month starts in the middle of the month is to correspnd with the independence of many countries like Costa Rica, ElSalvador, Guatemala, Nicaragua, Mexico and Chile.
Hispanic and Latino Americans amount to an estimated 17.8% of the total U.S. population, making up the largest ethnic minority.
CREC is honored to celebrate the influence and contributions of the Hispanic/Latinx community, who have enriched our society and nation.
Please save the date for the following spotlight events of the month:
- September 30, 2020, from 6-7:30 p.m.- A panel discussion with CREC parents/guardians/caring adults on supporting Hispanic/Latinx students & families
- October 7, 2020, from 3 p.m.-4 p.m.- Azúcar Negra: Highlighting Afro-Latinidad

SAFETY
- Wear your masks at all times. If you are eating or drinking, please DO NOT speak to others without your masks.
- Stay 6ft apart. During mask breaks, you will have the opportunity to go outside and remove your masks. You must remain 6ft apart to do so.
- If you choose not to follow the expectations, for the safety of others, you will be asked to see your administrator for next steps.
Tips for Communicating While Wearing a Mask or Physical Distancing
- Make sure you have your communication partner’s attention.
- Face your partner directly, and make sure nothing is blocking your view.
- Talk a little louder.
- Talk a little slower.
- Use your hands and your body language.
- Ask your partner if they understood you; if not, say it a different way or write it down.
- Move to a quiet place if you can.
- If you’re talking with someone new, ask if there’s anything you can do to make communication easier for both of you.

STUDENT LEADERSHIP
Actively recruiting students in grades 6-12 to serve as Peer Mediators, Peer Mentors, and Peer Tutors. All three programs will be beginning in the next two weeks and any students who are interested in either serving as a peer tutor, peer mentor, or peer mediator should contact TJ Faeth- Student Leadership Coordinator @ tfaeth@crec.org
PEER MENTORS AND TUTORS
If any students are in need of peer tutoring in any subject, looking for a peer mentor to help them with adjusting to school and navigating through their daily lives, or is seeking mediation between themselves and another student, please reach out to the Student Leadership Coordinator, their teachers, or MLC administration!
STUDENT GOVERNMENT
Beginning in mid-October! Student Government is open to students in grades 6-12, and is a great way to be a part of making MLC great!
