Principal's Update for Seniors!

Class of 2020 Graduation Information

Big picture

Greetings from Mrs. Martinez - Davis

We know that high school graduation is one of the most important moments in every student's life. During this time of social distancing, while making every effort to ensure everyone's health, listening to student's feedback, and still wanting to provide students with a graduation, we have decided to coordinate the class of 2020 graduation in the form of Individual Grad Ceremonies.

We had hoped a graduation in our own high school's stadium would be possible sometime this summer with the entire class. However, given the latest guidance from the Commissioner of Public Health for Monroe County, Dr. Michael Mendoza, we have decided to provide our seniors and their families with the opportunity to have personalized graduation ceremonies, walk the stage in their cap and gowns, and have opportunities for pictures with their families present, one family at a time.

We will be videotaping students as they cross the Brockport High School auditorium's stage. Afterward, all of these clips will be put together with other traditional elements of our BHS graduation, like the Valedictorian and Salutatorian speeches, to make a complete and virtual graduation for our students. We have partnered with 13WHAM and Fox Rochester, to be able to broadcast the entire graduation ceremony, including our traditional speeches on Thursday, June 25, 2020, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. on Fox Rochester. Also, the graduation ceremony will be streamed on and posted to the Class of 2020 archive page on for future viewing.

Below you will find information you will need to read carefully to be best prepared for your graduation. Please remember we have never done anything like this before and are trying to help you prepare to ensure everything goes as smoothly as possible. So after you read the information below, if you have additional questions, feel free to email your Assistant Principal, Christina Wawrzyniak, or me at We are so proud of our Class 2020! Go BHS grads!

Be Kind, be proud, be BHS,

Mrs. Martinez- Davis

Please adhere to the schedule below for best efficiency of distribution.

Distribution Process

Students pull into East parking lot by the pool doors; you will need to state your name to the volunteer. This volunteer will radio one of our volunteer runners who will then bring your Cap/Gown package to your vehicle. Because the building is still closed to the public, students and families can't come in to the building to pick up their cap and gowns. We ask that you are patient through this process as depending on traffic flow you may have a longer than expected wait time.

Still need a Cap and Gown?

If you were not able to order your cap and gown before the pandemic, we have extra cap and gowns in our school that we can provide to you. These were donated and have not been used. Please complete the form below under BHS Cap and Gown Sign Up and a staff member will contact you to confirm. If you can't access the form below, you can call our Main Office at (585) 637-1870.

Class of 2020 Individual Grad Ceremony Sign Up

Please click on the button below to sign up, after reviewing the available slots. Families should arrive no more than 5 minutes before the assigned time. Remain in cars until directed to come into the building by a staff member. Everyone needs to be masked. You will have a chance to take photos with your camera at the entrance of the school and your family can cheer and take your picture as you cross the stage.

Family Size and Seating Arrangements

Because of social distancing and limit of number of people in the auditorium at a time, we ask that you limit your family size to no more than 8 people per family. If you have 8 family members in your immediate family and they will all be present, you will be escorted into the auditorium in two different groups and walk down two different aisles to watch the graduate walk the stage. We ask that you exercise good judgement and help us keep everyone healthy. We will not allow more than 8 people in the auditorium per family. The graduate will walk the stage just the one time.

As each individual ceremony will only be a couple of minutes, there will be no seating. Family will stand in the designated area in the auditorium and will need to keep their masks on at all times. The center, closest to the stage will be reserved for the videographer. The graduate may remove his/her mask when crossing the stage if he/she feels comfortable and has not experience any health related symptoms during the last two weeks before June 11th. If you or any of your family members that will be accompanying you, have experience any related COVID19 symptoms within two weeks before June 11, you will not be permitted to be in attendance.

Attire & Etiquette

We want to honor the traditions of our BHS graduations as much as possible during these extraordinary times. Like in the past years, you are more than welcome to decorate your cap. Please make sure you are following our BHS essentials of respectful and responsible. This is your time to shine! Like in any other school formal event, dress appropriately, especially footwear that are comfortable and can handle the steps in the auditorium. Collard shirts, dresses, dress shoes are part of your graduation attire.
