How Are the Children
How are the Children of Avalon
Teachers and Staff,
As I reflect on our collective work last week during the opening of school I noticed a change. The excitement for new uniforms, or anticipation for a fresh start was to be expected. What I saw, What I believe I felt, was a focus on our student's well-being that I had not noticed in previous years. All the conversations seemed to be centered around the needs of all our children. The conversations, the actions, were more about how can I structure learning for all the students to grow and less about the disciplinary consequences for behaviors; what will we do when this happens, or what will be the punishment for this behavior?
It seemed we all were more empathetic toward the needs of the children and less focused on the rules. As I observed classrooms, I saw numerous activities designed to build positive relationships through collaborations within RJ circles, carousels, and creative writing prompts that focused on the students expectation for an effective learning environment. I am grateful to those teachers that took the time to build relationships rather then extend a list of rules. Thank you for taking the first step in establishing a Warm and Demanding classroom that will ensure our students are safe and well.

Models of Empathy
Shout out to our sixth graders in the Lancer Academy.!
All last week they waited patiently with no sign of frustration toward the new fifth graders as they struggled through the new processes that coincide with nutrition. They will be rewarded this week by going first and we will see if the fifth graders will be as patient.

New clocks and Intercoms
Teachers and Staff,
Over the next two weeks workers will be installing new clocks and intercom/phones throughout the campus. During the scope of this work workers will have access to each classroom. Please do not keep personal items of value in your classroom and be aware that workers may need to move items to access data ports and other electrical outlets.
Your patience and understanding during this update is greatly appreciated. Please inform my office of any concerns related to this facility improvement project, ext. 150.
