Week 2, Term 2 Newsletter

Tēnā koutou katoa! Greetings everyone!
This term is humming along already, and the excitement about the place is buzzing. For the first time in 6 months we have been able to gather as a whole school in the Auditorium for our school assembly. The senior students, along with Mrs Naude, led us in Praise and Worship, which was so amazing. We felt a strong presence of the Holy Spirit - it made us feel connected together by being able to be in the same space, at the same time. I certainly appreciate these precious moments, as do our staff and students.
The weather is starting to get a bit cooler, which suggests we are approaching the ‘winter season’ months. Keeping fit, well and healthy are really important, particularly as we encounter the usual cough, colds and sore throats. We appreciate whānau being diligent and keeping their child home when they are unwell.
We have a number of staff absent in Primary and Secondary this week, and so we are appreciative to have relievers; Mrs Hope Cahayag, Mrs Celia Dallas, Mrs Irene Adair, and Mr Raniera Adair, be able to support us to ensure we can keep things ticking along.
Primary students were treated to a wonderful hikoi to Remembrance Park in Kaitaia, organised by staff and supported by a lovely bunch of parent helpers, to practice their road safety knowledge and skills, and also hold a belated Anzac Day ceremony. Mrs Shanks feedback was very encouraging - the students enjoyed their experience, and the support was amazing!
Our school is currently being represented by 3 teams of students in the local Mangonui Netball competition. Not only are they getting fitter, but they are learning new skills and having some fun with their friends. If you would like to support them, the College games are on Thursday at 5.15 pm, and the Year 7 & 8 students on Saturday from 8.30 am, at the South Road courts in Kaitaia. You will be pleasantly surprised at the calibre of talent and skill these students have. They are wonderful role models and ambassadors of our school.
Lastly, please hold up in prayer Whāea Alice and her whānau. On Wednesday afternoon their house burnt down leaving them with no possessions at all, except the clothes they were wearing. Praise the Lord no one was hurt. We, as a kura, will continue to support and awhi them as they rebuild their home. More details of how you can support will be shared through our various platforms of communication.
We are so grateful for the loving and caring support we receive from our whānau and community. When we choose to do life with Christ, we will be blessed abundantly. And with these blessings, we will be able to bless others.
Blessings,
Mrs. Tina Takimoana
Acting Principal

Meet the Team - Mrs Maude Wilkinson - Senior School OLC Supervisor
Kia ora koutou katoa
My name is Maude Wilkinson. I, along with my whanau were welcomed on Monday with a beautiful powhiri. My husband Richard and I and our son Zion are returning home after being away for 10 years. We returned to New Zealand in 2020 after spending four years in Chengdu, China in an international school. My position was Head of Early Years and Pre-kindergarten teacher, prior to China we lived in Jordan where I taught new entrants. On Monday was also my first day in my new position as Online Learning Community Supervisor (OLC). The position has been newly created at KALS, however online learning has been around since the 90's. My main role is to ensure that students studying online are provided with pastoral support, engage positively with their e-teachers and other students and make the most of their learning opportunities. Through OLC, students are offered a wide range of curriculum areas, courses and subjects, all based on the NZ Curriculum and NCEA qualifications. I'm excited to support our students on their individual learning journey. We are blessed and thankful to God for this wonderful opportunity to return to KALS and our home. To Him be the glory!
Ngā mihi,
Maude
