Parent Update: Fourth Quarter 2023

A Message from Principal Freeman

Time flies when you Live the Ozona Life! I am honored to serve you and your children as the Principal of Ozona Elementary School. This year we focused on AVID engagement strategies and PBIS to ensure we accelerated the student learning experience while celebrating positive behavior. We increased field trips, family events, mentors/volunteers and student celebrations!

Our new Superintendent Mr. Hendrick tweeted that Ozona Elementary is a great school with great community support! What a wonderful first impression!

Thank you for an amazing school year. I love my Ozona family!

Go Ospreys!

Student Showcase! April 26th

Student Showcase is Wednesday, April 26th from 5:30-7 PM! This free night event is for families to come on campus and see what their student(s) have been learning this year.

Here are the highlights:

  • Classrooms will be open 5:30-7 for families to stop by.
  • This is a student led event. The students will be showing you something they have learned or something they are working on. The teacher will be there to greet you with a smile. (Keep in mind this is not a conference night, but a time for your child(ren) to shine!)
  • PE, Art and Music will have a display or engaging family activity. Be sure to stop by and say, "Hi!" to our Specialists.
  • The bookfair will be open! Mrs. Narkier and Cheryl will be busy welcoming our families to the library so you can find some summer reading material.

This event is a favorite and provides us a great opportunity to showcase Living the Ozona Life while coming together as a community! Go Ospreys!

Late Arrival & Early Pick Up

Tardies (late arrivals) have been high since spring break. Please remember to have your student here on time and in class by 8:45 am. If your student is late, you must come in to sign them in.

Go home changes that are called to the office are for emergency changes only and should be used in rare circumstances. Please send a note with your student to their teacher of any changes before the school day begins. It causes a lot of confusion for the students if they are unsure. If you need to make changes during the school day, they must be done by 2 pm so we have time to notify the teacher and the student.

Thank you for your help.

A Message from Mrs. Moncrieff

Hello Ozona Volunteers!

I hope you are all doing amazing. I want to thank you for the continued support we have received from our parents, mentors, and dedicated volunteers. Please accept our sincere thankfulness for all your help this year in making it a positive and encouraging learning environment for all our students. Our teachers and staff could not do all the do without your help.

There is just about 7 weeks left of this school year! Please remember to enter all your volunteer hours into the volunteer system. https://focus.pcsb.org/volunteer Every hour counts the county uses these hours as part of our state reporting to show our schools community involvement. If you have any trouble with your username and password, please let me know. It would be similar to v. your last name and first initial and for the password your last name with a capital first letter and the year you were born. (ex. username: v.doej and password Doe1999). Have a great week!

Sincerely,

Jenny Moncrieff

School Advisory Council

The School Advisory Council (SAC) is a team of people representing various segments of the community -- parents, teachers, students, administrators, support staff, and other interested community members.
Each Florida school must have a SAC. This requirement fits well with Pinellas County public schools since our district always has encouraged parent and teacher participation in strategic planning. As required, each SAC includes the principal and an "appropriately balanced" number of "stakeholders." These stakeholders are individuals representative of the ethnic, racial, and economic makeup of a given school's community. Each SAC is responsible for strategic planning for the school improvement plan for its school. The organization works jointly with the principal and staff after analyzing relevant data.

Would you like to serve on our School Advisory Council (SAC) for the 2023-2024 year? We will be meeting on Monday evenings at 6:00 pm in the media center. If you are interested, please complete the Form below. Please send in your completed application no later than May 5th, 2023.

Learning Style

During this time of year, we begin to plan for the upcoming school year. We gather and utilize a variety of data and information as we begin the process of creating next year’s class lists. If you would like to provide input into your child’s learning style and classroom environment, please write a letter via email to Assistant Principal Downes no later than Friday, April 14th. Her email is downesj@pcsb.org

While we do not take specific teacher requests, we understand that your prior experiences, successful (or not), would provide additional information in determining the best setting for your student’s success. If your child will not be attending OES next year, or you have an address change, now is the time to inform the front office with the school he/she will be attending. Thank you!

PE Reminders

Hello from the PE Department! Thanks to all the parents and everyone who volunteered for the MEGA Event, we wouldn’t have been able to have such a successful day without your assistance! Just a few reminders as the weather begins to heat up this final quarter: Make sure students are wearing the proper footwear and clothing for PE, were seeing a lot of crocs, boots, and sweatshirts. Also continue to express the importance of hydration before, during and after physical activity. Students have also been leaving a lot of their water bottles and jackets on the covered court, again just a reminder it is their responsibility to collect their belongings. As a department we will continue introducing a plethora of engaging topics and activities on a week-to-week basis. Lastly, we want to give a shout out to all the kiddos who help assist in clean up and follow our PE guidelines daily (you know who you are) as well as to our two amazing assistants-Coach Hanna & Coach Richards, who are doing a phenomenal job with Pre-K!

Go Ospreys!

Coach Boychuk, Coach Harty & Coach Ruffino

A Colorful Note from Art-

Ozona artists have been busy creating masterpieces all year long. We will be displaying one from every K-5 scholar at our Showcase Evening in April. Congratulation to all the scholars that have had their artwork on display at the 10 different Pinellas County art shows this school year.

All K-5 scholars were able to tour the Traveling Dalí Art Mobile during art class. Scholars engaged in a short video learning about Salvador Dalí and then were able to interact with the artwork in the mobile museum.
Thanks for sending your scholar ready to learn and get creative with our many different mediums we use in the art room. Please make sure they are in “ART Friendly” clothing on art days.

We are busy uploading artwork to Artsonia.com, please make sure you can view your scholar’s artwork online. All original artworks will be sent home before the end of the school year.

Kind Regards,

Mrs. Elizabeth Keller & Mrs. Romney Coleman
