What's Happening??!!
~ Hawley School Newsletter: October 18, 2020 ~
From the Desk of Mr. Moretti.....
Dear Hawley Parents/Guardians, Teachers, and Staff,
Hybrid was weird but we rocked it. We are now All In, with some Distant Learners, and we are hitting our stride. 95% of students have returned to In Person Learning. We continue to grow and adapt to make the year as "normal" as we can. The kids just love being in school, and we just love having them.
Buckle up, keep your hands and feet in the car at all times, and stay seated as you read on to find out What's Happening at Hawley .......
~ Temporary Remote Learner ~
First, we do not want students sent to school if they are sick. All parents have been taking an abundance of caution and we thank you for that. So, if you as the parent feel it is best for your child to stay home- I agree and support that decision. You need to contact the main office (by 10:00 am of an absence) as you always have been asked to do. That is the communication that I will use to begin activating short term distance learning. You certainly can email the teacher as well as a heads-up, but do not expect a reply at night or over a weekend, and the office is the important notification. Please state if you think it is only a 1 day illness or a multi-day illness. I know that you may not know at that moment but do your best to judge. If it is a 1 day illness, the student will not be a distant learner. It is OK to have an absence, this year, you probably will have many. We are not focusing as closely on the number of absences as in the past, these are unique circumstances.
If a student is going to be out for multiple days because they have COVID or are quarantining or have the flu, and you think they can do work, we will accommodate them as a temporary distant learner. We do need 24 hours to, in some cases, make and post a Google Link since there are some classes without distant learners currently, but more importantly, we need the time to plan, prepare, create student work that is relevant. It then needs to be copied, scanned and uploaded into the Google Classroom. It also includes specials and any support services a student may require. We will do it, the 2nd day and on. And, if we are going to do this, it is important that the child logs in on-time and participates all day.
Also, if you have a unique family situation that perhaps we can accommodate, please feel free to reach out to me. Thank you for your understanding that we can not support a student becoming a distant learner for a just a one day absence or travel outside of the school vacations.
