The Wonderful World of Woodbury
Weekly Update for Families 8/28/23
Making the most of the indoors on those super hot days! Kindergarten Yoga!
A Message from Mrs. Kern
We rocked our first full week! Students and staff are finding their groove and it's been awesome to see all of the smiling faces even though the hot weather left us all feeling a bit cooped up.
Thank you to all who attended our Curriculum Night and supported our first book fair of the year!
Parent drop and pick up is going well. Thank you for your help! I love the many good mornings and hugs at the fence each day.
We will practice our first drills in the next couple of week. This week we will have our first practice fire drill.
3rd Grade will be going to Hoover on Friday.
NO SCHOOL LABOR DAY Monday, September 4th.
Nurse Updates
I’m looking forward to partnering with you to ensure your student’s health and safety while they are at school.
Vision Examination – All Kindergarteners and any student attending school in Illinois for the first time are required to submit a State of Illinois Eye Exam or Waiver by October 15th.
Medication - All medications, including cough drops and over-the-counter products, require a Medication Authorization Form to be completed and signed by a student’s healthcare provider and their parent/guardian.
SEL with Miss Rogowski
Welcome back Woodbury families! I am so excited to be back for another great year. I was beyond impressed with our returning students displaying such awesome hallway behavior on day one!! Fantastic job, way to be great role models to our new students!
Over the next week or two I will be sending home consent forms for individual and small group social work services. If you have any questions feel free to contact me. Some topics we can cover include expected and unexpected behaviors, friendships, conflict resolution, emotion regulation, self control, managing anxiety, whole body listening, flexible thinking, executive functioning, social skills, mindfulness, self-esteem, and so much more!
I will once again be back in the classrooms every week teaching a Second Step lesson, which is our district-wide social-emotional learning curriculum. This is my favorite part of my job. We have some really meaningful conversations and discussions during this time together. The four major topics for the year again are growth mindset & goal setting, emotion management, empathy & kindness, and problem-solving. So many of these topics match with our district’s core values that we will be focusing on this school year. Our core values go along so well with our school theme, “Stay On the Road to Success.” While we may have moments of hardships, hit construction, or veer off the road sometimes, having these core values will be a sure way to get back on the road to success. But at the same time, I just want to remind you that success looks different for everyone. Some students are still learning how to have empathy or how to work together as a team which is OK! We are all learning together!
New Security Policy
Please take a moment to review the districts new security policy below.
Visitor Security: Every school in the district will be rolling out a new security protocol and technology for guests and volunteers entering the buildings. This system will require identification from visitors (i.e. state ID, driver’s license, etc.), and all visitors will be photographed. A quick background check will be performed by searching US sex offender databases (with the option to expand this to criminal databases.). This system will also link with our student database to provide an extra layer of protection for students with no contact orders.
