Who Where The Orphan Train Riders?
The Orphan train riders were abandoned children living on the street of NYC. When the movement first started out, there were almost 30,000 children. They were from ages 6 to 18.
Where Did They Come/Go?
The Orphan train movement started at NYC and then traveled to the Mid-west and Canada. Most kids didn't even know where they were going.
How Were The Riders Treated?
The riders were treated good. They got new clothes and they took baths. They had a good time on the train. They felt like it was an adventure.
Why Did This Happen?
This movement happen because there were so many homeless children on the streets of New York. So Charles Loring Brace wanted to help these kids. So he founded "The Children's Aid Society". Also. to help these kids out, they were payed for their work. Now this is a concept of Foster care.
