Principal's Report

Kia Ora e te Whānau and welcome to Week 5.

Well, after weeks of waiting, planning and preparation we finally have COVID in our school community and it is becoming more and more widespread around the Clutha district.

A huge thank you to the parents who have been monitoring their children for symptoms, getting children tested and letting us know the results.

This is an incredibly anxious time for our school community but I am confident we can continue to work together to support everyone in our school whānau and minimise the spread.

At school we will continue to:

- wear masks

- maintain good hand washing and hygiene procedures

- limit the people our students have contact with

- monitor the students for signs of illness

We ask that our parents continue to:

- wear masks when dropping off and picking up students

- monitor their children for signs of illness

- keep unwell children at home and seek medical advice if they show COVID symptoms

By working together we can ensure school is a safe place to be.

To ensure we maintain the confidentiality of everyone, we are unable to tell our school community who any positive cases are or which class they are in, so it is important that everyone is diligent about monitoring for symptoms.

This week we were very excited to welcome Paul Skipper, the South West Otago Sports Activator, to Balclutha Primary School for his first sessions. The classes all really enjoyed their session with him and are excited about his future visits.

Have a great week,

Ngā mihi nui,

Vicki Neave

Room 3

Coaching for jumping was fun. We had to learn all sorts of new skills.

Room 5

Room 5's geometry activity. The students are touching mystery shapes without being able to see them to name and descibe them.

Room 6

Room 6 has been reading about bees and wasps. This week we sketched and labelled the body parts.

Room 12

Room 12 has been working on self portraits with a twist. One half represents hobbies and what they are interested in. The other half is how they look.

Room 11

Self portraits have been a focus for Room 11 students over the past 10 days. We have used a combination of paint, collage and sketching to produce these unique masterpieces.
