Please Stop Laughing at Me

By: Jodee Blanco

Please Stop Laughing at Me is a book about a girl who is constantly bullied in school. This girls name was Jodee Blanco and all she wanted was to apart of the "popular crowd". Life in elementary school at Holy Ascension Catholic School was good until she made a choice to volunteer in the special education room. That's where all the bullying started because she did something different other kids wouldn't do. Once problems started to worsen she went to Morgan Hills Academy. She had a fresh start and was part of the "popular crowd". It all went down hill when she was invited to a party and was put in a difficult situation. Jodee was bullied but in the end everything worked out.

Jodee's conflict was clearly bullying. She always wanted to know what it was like to be part of the "popular crowd". Part of the reasons she was bullied was because of her looks. She tried to be different and tried to get help. The ending resolution was she got a small group of friends and got surgery to fix her appearance. Jodee was faced with character vs. character conflict. In the end Jodee ended up being very successful.

“You don't get to pick who you are in this life, but you can decide what you become.” - Jodee Blanco, Please Stop Laughing at Me

In the book Please Stop Laughing at Me the theme is there might be things that knock you down but you just have to get back up. Also another theme would be don't mistreat others because you don't like the way they are and you don't know what they'll become.

Textual Evidence- Most Powerful Parts

"What a desperate, pathetic fool I was. Time after time, my "friends" had shown me their true colors. Yet, I still wanted to believe they were sorry for causing me pain." (Please Stop Laughing at Me 128).

To me this means that she wasn't willing to give up or think negatively.

Book Review

I would give Please Stop Laughing at Me a rating of 3. The reason I give it this rating is because I feel like there was a lot of over exaggeration in the story. It was a good book but and a lot of detail.
